I actually agree with pretty much every move Ainge has made.   I've been expecting most of the moves.  He's done a fantastic job.

The only possible misfire was not moving Rondo sooner, but it's defensible, because I don't think Ainge anticipated how little Rondo's trade value was.  He probably could have gotten more earlier, but he tried his darndest to fast-track the team by going all-in for Kevin Love and keeping Rondo.  He sort of had to scramble to get any value at all for Rondo.  A late 1st and a couple 2nds (plus whatever we get for Crowder, jameer and the exception) isn't too bad.  Ben McLemore + 1sts would have been better, but we've had conflicting reports about whether Rondo killed that deal from happening.

The nets deal was insane... just insane.  You can afford to whiff a couple times when you pull off such an insane trade.  That said, he actually waited too long to trade KG and Pierce.  They should have been moved a couple years earlier. Ray should have been moved as well (we tried, but the deal was killed).   The Nets bailed us out there... can't believe we got that package for those guys at that point in their careers.  Ainge waited way too long, threw a hail mary last second, and it resulted in a game winning touchdown.

Hold on there....

I'm calling "Pass Interference, LarBrd33"....let's do that down again.

Let's wait to see what Danny actually does with those picks, and the upcoming summers of FA before we just give the gameball to Danny.

We could very much possibly look like THIS guy at Danny's Football Game if we're not careful, LOL:

The draft AND these upcoming Superstar FA's could very well give us the Stiff Arm, like JJ did to the Gov, here.

Let's wait to see what Danny does, here.
The fact that he got ANYTHING for KG and Pierce at that point in their careers is a small miracle.   He waited way too long and somehow still came away with real assets.  Had that deal happened in 2011, it would have made more sense.

So far we have James Young and Tyler Zeller... let's see what else we get out of the deal

Yep, so far so good....wake me up if Jalil ends up in Celtics Green, or Thon.

I'm onboard with the rebuild even if it's painful to watch, but this is basically the Pacer site equivalent of the people here who gush about how great Philly's doing.

The jury is still out on Ainge. He hasn't done anything as of yet but acquire picks. Until he does something with them who knows how this will turn out. I'd really like to see him package a few of them and move up in this upcoming draft.

Danny could have not gotten all those UNPROTECTED 1st rounders from BKN and we would have still endure seeing old KG and Pierce hobble to the playoffs as a meager 8th seed to get swept by a younger and healthier team like Chicago or Toronto. He also could have held onto Rondo, who was having his WORST career as a pro (lowest PPG, lowest FG%, lowest FT%), and continually get frustrated at his selfish stat-padding triple double nonsense that wasn't winning us games whatsoever. He could have kept inconsistent, teddy-bear Jeff Green so we could also be irate at his 30 point here and 4 points there games. I swear it takes an opposing fanbase to appreciate what he has done to the team and how he has made us amazingly flexible going forward! Are people really in the belief that Rondo was going to attract major FAs here? Definitely not the pathetic way he was playing. He always talked the talk and said the right things, but once he stepped on the court he did nothing he said he was going to improve on. What we got for him was pretty weak but then again the league is infested at the PG position. Danny could have screwed Rondo and sent him to another lottery team but he hooked up his old partner Carlisle with him and made him go to a situation where he could compete for a ring (again). We're cleaning house and rebuilding, are we fools to hold onto players that aren't giving no effort to build a winning culture for these promising kids on the team? No sir. I'm glad Rondo didn't get the max from us because he's nowhere near max-level to even demand it. He's not a centerpiece player and never was. Ainge probably held on to him too long and should have traded him last season. Danny gets a 8/10 from me. He's much better off than the other GM's that have failed to rebuild properly, let alone win a championship.

Of course. But now the celtics have more options and more ways and more flexibility going forward. The build by Danny is going through stages. He has a plan.

Stage 1 is jettison current players who won't contribute. Kg, pierce, crawford, green gone

Stage 2 turn these vets into assets that are fungible. Players can be hard to move. Draft picks are valued and easy to move. But also pick up players who can be flipped. Again, Crawford and later wright. The point is to accumulate assets for further moves. Danny has done this a number of ways.

Also, if talent comes along get it and keep it. Smart and one of sully and olly will probably be kept. They are cheap talent that can be a supporting or valuable part of a new, better team. As we see with Cleveland, stars require good teammates.

Stage 3 is acquire talent over the next 3-4 years using the assets. As was discussed in another thread. Ainge can draft players, trade for players, leap frog in the draft, gamble in the draft. Without all the assets these multiple tactics would not be possible. Now the celtics are MUCH better positioned to rebuild than 2 years a go.

This is year 2 of a 5 year rebuild. Of course we need to wait and see what happens. But at the same time I am happy to see Danny making progress in the rebuild process.

Patience is required here folks.

No ones giving up top young talent for picks.  As it stands we'll get guys on the later side of their prime.  I'd rather buidl with this young core and continue to build through the draft.  In 3-4 years we'll be one of the youngest yet more experienced teams with some young studs mixed in.  This bodeswell on all fronts be it trading or continuing to build with what we have.  Doesnt make much sense to give up a few players for one star.  we have alot of potential on this team and they need time to develop.

Yup, we're on an "upward trajectory" folks, so be patient and enjoy the ride. Seatbelts optional...

What we have to wait for is imo:
a horrible season this year (bad)
hopefully a bit entertaining next year with youth movement (good)
an enigma with free agents signing knowing they are going to be shopped at every second (bad)
cap space (good)
lots of draft picks (good)
draft picks that can be turned into trade assets (good)
PROTECTED draft picks that can turn into second rounders…..
getting good drafts picks in the future
developing our current young guys AND having them around by the time the future draft picks are here

if it works ainge will have done a nice job, if it doesn't  :'(

This position is puzzling to me.  There is a difference between making the right moves and getting the desired result.

Just because the picks don't pan out doesn't mean the decision to a acquire them in the first place was wrong.  By that logic, the Nets decision to trade us all these picks would be somehow vindicated if they get lucky and somehow hit a super star on the one swapped first they own in 2017.

What Ainge has done is give us a chance.  It may or may not pan out, but it's still a chance we would have not had if we didn't trade for these picks.

Ainge did do a great job collecting bricks, but until he turns that to a house that we can all be proud off, I won't call him God just yet.

Collecting pieces is one thing , turning them into a real basketball team will be another.

I kinda wish the days of buying your players was still around .  Now it's based too much on luck .

Agreed. I now have (hardly) accepted the fact that Danny's plan for the future is pretty much riding on luck.

He blew the team apart and now we're riding on hope that not only do we get a good pick, but whoever we pick would be the guy to build around, and/or we get lucky and end in a James Harden sort of situation.

He's really putting the future of the franchise on luck. We better be lucky.
