Well, Stu Jackson on NBATV seems to think Danny is doing a fine job.

We'll see.

Perhaps in being up in years I have too many memories of the post Larry-McHale-Chief years...but I can't ignore them, though.

Maybe Jalil is the next Tim Duncan....maybe Thon Maker is the next KG....but it's that "Maybe" that I just don't like.....and even with that, we have to have the ping pong balls fall the right way.

A situation like OKC's won't happen very often...Danny had to have the perfect storm happen just to get KG and Ray Ray here.

Can we honestly believe that a Super Star FA will be swayed to come here next summer? I certainly hope that Danny can convince someone this summer or next. But with Free Agency nowadays, players want to do Super Friends or Justice League and "Team Up" lol

Can't blame them, really...I'd take one look up at the rafters of the Boston Celtics and get intimidated, too - that is asking a LOT of superstars nowadays - to come here and START something new, with all that tradition hanging over their heads.

If Danny did it once, he can do it again. But it's that "can" that could take a LONG time.

its hard not to ignore the dark years after Bird, McHale and Parrish left, but we do have to remember that we did bring in TWO franchise stars to keep the music playing and the winning tradition alive and they both died on us.  It was completely demoralizing for the franchise, as Im sure you probably know.

Not saying this rebuild is gonna be all smiles and sunshine, just saying that rebuild had some variables to it that I dont think were gonna have to fight through this time around.  At least I hope not

Good points.

Reggie was going to be special..and Bias would've definitely kept us competitive and probably would've gotten us another banner or two.

I'll strap myself in and hope for a short road trip.

There is no guarantee that if the Celtics tank, they will get anyone in the draft that will help them.

Kwame Brown and Greg Oden were both top 5 picks and they did nothing to help the teams that drafted them.

Karl Towns Jr. and Okafur are not guarantees that the Celts will get either one or that either one can handle the NBA.

I would rather have Rondo.  =)  I know what I get with him.

To think the Celts were in the 8th slot playoff slot pre-Xmas.

So another year wasted.  Playing the Draft Lottery usually leaves you crying and broke.

Cheer up buckaroo...these are exciting times!  Still plenty of deadwood to throw overboard yet...Wallace, Nelson, Thornton, Prince...

Only a small percentage of quality players that come into the league are not drafted.

So the road to rebuild really begins.

It's great to think that we have a ton of chips to cash in. I'm just hoping that we cash them in correctly and end up with what we are really hoping for.

I'm afraid that we can't cash in on those assets and end up with mediocre players, in turn, making this a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong rebuild.

More than likely ......maybe another 13 years .......is my prediction.

It is interesting that Celtics and Lakers both bottom out at the same time tho.......

Oh God please no.

I worry about the plethora of picks. If we can use it to land stars, great, it's just that it's going to take a James Harden situation for us to be able to do that, and that doesn't happen often. It's not like we will be able to trade many picks to acquire a top 3 pick, no team in their right mind would take quantity over quality.

I'm afraid those picks just turn up to be role players, if not worse.

The draft is a gamble.

You know what's also a gamble? Free agency.

You know what else is also a gamble? Trades.

There are no certainties in rebuilding. If there were, nobody would ever rebuild for more than a year.  You just roll the dice as many times as possible and hope something comes up sixes.

It's indeed a gamble, but we're going all in, which is the scary part.

We win, great. We lose, and there's a bigger chance that we will more than we win, we're going to be stuck for a long time.

Hope. That's where the franchise is leaning its future on, good luck on all of us.

The draft is a gamble but the more picks you have the better your odds.

We have too many draft picks currently. Some will have to be traded due to the roster crunch of all the guaranteed rookie contracts.

Or, you keep the picks and trade guys like Sullinger, Olynyk, Smart, and Young  if they prove to be non-stars who look more like quality reserves on a contender rather than starters.

We're horrible now, but still not bad enough to get a top 4 pick.

We're tied for 5th and just blew up the remaining parts of our team We should be worse then the lakers for sure now.
If the draft were today we would be picking 8th not 5th.
www.tankathon.com

I think we can move up to 5th but I don't see us getting any higher than that.

I'm completely on board with the plan. We should trade take the best available center with our first pick then trade up to grab one of the top four small forwards.
I'm tracking the standings here
http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=75437.0

we were bad enough to be 5th worst before the Rondo trade and steaming along towards 4th worst afterwards.  these 2 trades will almost ensure the 4th worst record.  If Minny suddenly gets healthy, we may be close to 3rd worst.

We still need to dump Bass and Jameer from the roster.

Wouldn't be shocked to see us flip Turner

Wallace will unfortunately be here another season, because next year he'll actually have trade value as an expiring.

Crowder could be moved.

I'd strongly encourage Ainge to move Bradley for an expiring next week (he can be traded on Jan 1st).  His money just eats into our flexibility.

But yes... we're settling in on a young core of youth... Young, Smart, Sully, Oly, our Lotto pick (hopefully a center) + several late 1sts and 2nds to try to squeeze some talent out of, and cap space to sign guys Ainge/Stevens covet for the system.

How much older is Bradley than the likes of Kelly Olynyk or Sullinger, that he's not part of the future?
