Why are the wizards cheap. Give us a 2nd for nelson. Eat his contract for next season. Geez

Because who in the world is going to sacrifice an asset for Nelson when it's an open secret he'll be available for "free" later this season?  It's exactly why no one bothered trading for Turkoglu/Big Baby/Al Harrington last year.

Toronto looks like a great partner. Wright for Hayes and a pick (protected 1st) or two (second rounders) looks like a good deal for both.

The Raptors are looking. They are clearly in the market for a defensive minded big man, preferably at the power forward spot, but sources close to the situation say the Raptors are not locked in on any one situation.

The Raptors also don’t have a lot to offer as their core guys are deemed pretty untouchable, which means the chips on the table likely include players like Landry Fields (6.25 million), Chuck Hayes ($5.95 million), Tyler Hansbrough ($3.32 million) and long-time Raptor Amir Johnson ($7.00 million).

There is a ton of salary in those contracts, but not exactly the kind of players that other teams get excited about. The fact that all of them are ending contracts could help in a deal, but they don’t seem overly desirable as roster players.

Toronto would be a good fit for Wright or Bass.  Any of their expirings north of Hansbrough will work for either player.

Funny Crowder story.  When the C's had Marquis Daniels me and my buddies used to call him The Predator.  My wife walks in during the game the other night and asks, "did the Celtics get the predator back?".

I love Crowder!  The new Predator.

This is your classic addition by subtraction.  Don't tempt CBS with trying to fit Wright or Nelson into the rotation.  Just get them out of here.

It's kind of crazy that all Rondo might ultimately bring back in a trade is a 1st in the 20s, a couple of seconds and Jae Crowder, but the alternative was to let team dysfunction continue until the trade deadline.

Well duh.

Are we to believe Wright didn't already know this the second we traded Rondo for him and a bunch of a garbage?  I would hope he didn't assume were willing to give up Rondo because we were actually interested in him.

This fits perfectly with Brad's comments after last game about how Brandan Wright is the only one of our 5 bigs that definitely deserves to get minutes.

I'm sure Danny instructed him to say that, but every GM in the league should have seen directly through that, right?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Since when is Brandan Wright a defensive minded big? Yes, he's athletic but he's never been much of a rim protector.

Wright is much better suited as a PF than he is a C. As a PF he has the length and athleticism to be impactful as a defender. Let's not forget he was averaging 1.6 blocks in less than 20 mpg for Dallas.

Give me a better option for the Raps. One that is as available, as talented, and that's asking price will be as low as Wright's.

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute
Ed Davis
Marvin Williams
Darrell Arthur

C'mon, man. Talk about reaching. Williams and Moute are more 3s than 4s and Wright is better than Arthur and Davis.

Williams and Moute have both shown they're capable of defending 4s at a high level in this league. You may have an argument about Wright being better than Arthur, but I really think Ed Davis is more talented and a far better defensive player right now.

Wright can be a flashy shotblocker because of his athleticism but he gets bullied and pushed out of position so easily in the post. If Toronto is looking for a defensive minded guy, I don't think Wright is as perfect of a fit as you're proclaiming.

It almost makes you want to cry or beat your head in a wall when you stop and think about this Rondo trade...

Best guesses on my end:

- Nelson gets bought out.  He isn't happy here.  Let him walk.  He'll hook up with a playoff contender and his time here was minimal.  Honestly, I don't blame him.  This really turned out lousy for him.

- Danny gets anything for Wright.  Danny is boxed into a corner - he'll have to settle for what he's given.

I'd send Wright to the Raptors for Chuck Hayes' expiring contract, and would PRY and number one pick from Toronto.  Let Hayes walk as well.

Next up on the get out of Boston list: Jeff Green...  Whereabouts TBD.

What about Nelson.

From the same article:

4. Brandan Wright is available. Boston Celtics president Danny Ainge has informed the 6-10 center that he's on the block and should expect to be on another team. That's why Wright had a head-scratching DNP this week on a team that could use his skill set. The Wizards would have to execute a trade to bring him on board and he has an expiring contract that pays $5 million. Given Boston's point-guard situation -- traded Rajon Rondo and now Marcus Smart is learning the job and Evan Turner isn't a natural at distributing -- they believe that Wright doesn't fit despite 72.4% field-goal shooting. Wright running the floor with John Wall or in the half-court with Andre Miller? Still not likely, but it would make for a fantastic highlight reel. A big who can step out to slow down the pick-and-roll like Wright's old teammate, Tyson Chandler of the Mavericks, and recover to shade the rim is invaluable. The Wizards would have to match salary but players of this caliber aren't expected to be available because the demand far outweighs the supply.

Quote
5. If Jameer Nelson gets bought of his contract, he could end up in a Wizards uniform. Nelson was part of the deal for Rondo that sent him from Dallas to Boston. The Wizards will be in hot pursuit because he's experienced and the type of combo guard they covet most for the open roster spot. This is the most likely of all the scenarios. Nelson is expected to negotiate a buyout. He would be on a pro-rated salary which would be a minimal cost to the Wizards, he'd come off the books after the season and it allows the veteran a chance to go deep into the playoffs for the first time in a while. And the playing time is there behind Beal (see item No. 1 on Allen). He simply has to be on the Wizards' roster by March 1, the deadline to be eligible for the postseason, and want to come here. If Nelson is bought out and doesn't end up in D.C., it won't be from lack of effort on this end.

Quote
Bonus: This is looking ahead to the offseason but keep an eye on what happens with Jeff Green, also of the Celtics (and on the trade block), who is expected to opt out of his contract and become a free agent this summer. If Pierce, who has a player option for next season with the Wizards, were to not return Green would immediately jump onto the short list of players the Wizards would court to fill the void.

I've never seen such a Celtics oriented article that's about another team.

Washington Wizard's plan:
1. Sign former Celtic Ray Allen
4. Trade for current Celtic Brandon Wright
5. Sign current Celtic Jameer Nelson if the C's buy him out.
6. Sign current Celtic Jeff Green if former Celtic Paul Pierce doesn't return in the offseason.

This really is unusual news though; not that Danny is trying to trade anyone and everyone, but that he actually told the guy upfront that it was happening.

Except, he was averaging those blocks while playing almost exclusively at C.   Wright played the vast majority (over 90%) of his minutes for Dallas this year at center and only a tiny handful at PF.

So I'm not sure how that makes him 'much better suited as a PF'.

PFs today are expected to be able to play away from the basket on both ends a little more than centers are.   Wright doesn't really seem to have a game away from the basket.
