Does this mean the tax payers would have to build an Olympic stadium that wouldn't be used for anything at all? How do they feel about that? It better not be my state taxes paying that. If Boston wants it they gotta do it themselves. No more Big Digs on my dime thank you very much.
One of the reasons given was that the Games could be substantially privately-funded. The proposed budget was under $5 billion (cheap by Olympic standards). There are already facilities built (and some privately owned)- Fenway, Gillette, the Reggie Lewis Center, etc, not to mention numerous colleges. And I heard a few months ago that Kraft is trying to build a soccer stadium. There's a lot of your facilities without a tax dollar spent.
EDIT: In comparison, Russia spent $51 million in Sochi, but then again that's Russia.
