The Boston Celtics have found a replacement for Rajon Rondo ... in the rumor mill, that is.

Boston's Jeff Green will indeed be the subject of seemingly endless trade rumors between now and the Feb. 19 trade deadline.

The latest has Memphis expressing interest in him as well as Miami's Luol Deng.

Danny Ainge, Boston's president of basketball operations, addressed the rumors during his weekly call-in to 98.5 the Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich show on Thursday morning.

"Suffice it to say, we've had many phone calls around the league," Ainge said. "But I won't specify what those trade calls have been. It's that time of year. There's going to be a lot of trade rumors, especially when you're a team that's won 12 games. Jeff Green's name is all over the paper today. I guess he's the new Rondo for our team. His (Rondo's) name was always in the papers for the last eight or nine years."

Ainge would not get into specifics such as what the Celtics would want compensation-wise for Green who is Boston's top scorer.

"Jeff's been our best player this year," Ainge said. "He has had a fantastic year. Last night, he didn't have a good game."

In Boston's 89-81 win at Brooklyn, Green had eight points on 4-for-11 shooting with one rebound.

"He got in foul trouble early but he hit the two big shots that sealed the victory down the stretch," Ainge said. "He's been our most consistent scorer."

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Danny Ainge was asked to give a crap about the Jeff Green rumors and responded, "Listen guys, you know I would if I could, but I just can't give a crap. I'm all out of craps, sharts, poops, you name it. Look when Rondo was here, I couldn't give a crap then, now with Jeff Green, I can't give a crap now. The fact is, phones exist. And people dial numbers, and they hit send, and they reach other people. I can't control that. The fact is, Brad Stevens has my full and unconditional support and I think this team is a lot better than people give them credit for. Also, I'm lying."

Danny Ainge, just moments ago, speaking to reporters. Back to you in studio, Bob.

I'm confused about just how many craps Danny has and when he plans on trading them.

Sounds like Danny needs some Activia.

Question that should be asked of Ainge:

Sure, he is tired of talking this stuff.   Everyone knows there is a fire sale on this team.  I think Bass and Thornton will be tried to move ahead of Green but I think teams want Green more if that makes sense.

Anyone still believe we gave up a shot at a championship by trading Perk for Green?

And now we are trading that player for probably more scraps.

I would say that initial trade was a failure.

According to sources Danny tried to move Green and KO for a four-pack of Activia earlier today and was shot down.

LeBron didn't win his ring that year, so I'm not sure why his opinion matters.

Also, Rondo had literally one arm that post-season.  We weren't winning a title that year.

I doubt that trading away players that expire in the end of this season qualifies in any form or shape to be a fire sale.

Perk would've gently caught Rondo in his arms before he hit the ground, sparing his elbow.  Then glared at D-Wade so hard that he'd immediately retire.  Some onlookers would swear they heard the love theme from The Bodyguard playing softly in the background, but it could never be confirmed.
