Has anybody been keeping track of this guy? Man, it really hurts that we missed out on him (he went one pick ahead of Young). I like Young, but center is such a huge need for us. Of course with Ainge's draft history it's very possible that he would have continued to ignore Euros.

Nurkic is the reason Mozgov was expendable for the Nuggets (they got two first rounders for him!).

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I think we really do need to wait a couple of years to see how Young (and Nurkic) progress. Nurkic isn't proving to be the next Gasol [yet] and he was chosen before the Cs actually had the opportunity to take him, so I am not that upset.

We got Zeller and a first for a TPE - that is at least as good as what Denver got for Mozgov.

You could say the same thing about Steven Adams, he went 1 spot above KO the year before.

i like the guys the Celtics ended up with... but I like a lot of guys in this draft more.   It's painful to see Wiggins blowing up knowing the lotto balls robbed us of another franchise player.   I think Parker and Embiid are going to be huge players.   But I mean... tons of players injured, Exum hasn't yet shown his potential... Saric is still oversees... at least our guys are healthy.  So much potential in that draft class.

Will be interesting to look back on it in a few years.

Before the draft, I want Gordon and Nurkic. They both ended up getting picked before we selected.

I only find success of players irksome when we pass on them to draft a player that doesn't perform.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I agree with Evan here. I'm happy with Young since he was there even though I wanted Nurkic going into the draft. If he was still on the board and we passed on him, then I'd be upset.

I said it before. I drove a Draft Jusuf Nurkic bandwagon before the draft. I can't remember if I was preaching to reach for him, but I know for a fact that I wanted him to be drafted to us.

It doesnt really irk me, as I liked the Smart selection. But it's gets me sad that Nurkic has been playing well, and being productive.

Position of need means relatively nothing to me considering where this team's at. Also, if we want to go big in this draft I'm confident there will be 4's and 5's on the board worthy of taking where we'll be picking.

Not that trades should be treated as one team vs the other, but the Nuggets really won out on that draft night trade. The Bulls? So far, they didn't.

nope. not irked in the least. i checked in my pockets, under the couch cushions, even next to the butter in the fridge. nope, not a smidgen of irksome did i find. none.

the celtics cannot get every single player in the draft. good ones will get away.

by the same token, i think young may have been a very good pick. only time will tell whether either of them pan out and have good careers.

It'll be weird having the MVP be Brazilian. Bruno is a cool name though.

Do you think that Toronto would be so dumb as to trade him to us for Jeff Green, lol? ;D  Yeah, I know, but I still thought that I should at least put it out there, haha.  I liked a lot of guys in this draft.  Obviously, Embiid would have been a dream come true, :'(, but when that didn't happen, I would have been happy with either Smart or Randle.  I was hoping that we could trade Sully for Randle, but I know that the Lakers aren't that dumb, unfortunately, lol.  Sigh.  I did want James Young, though, although TJ Warren was taken a pick or two ahead of him, along with Mitch McGary, and I was really hoping that we could have also gotten KJ McDaniels, but that didn't materialize, either.

As for Nurkic, I just looked for highlights of him on youtube and was pleasantly surprised by his post game, because I don't remember hearing about him, or perhaps I've just forgotten.  What really ticks me off, though, is the hand-to-hand combat that is allowed whenever someone tries to play with his back to the basket.  Call a foul already!  Ugh.  Thanks, Detroit (sarcasm)!  I love how he actually plays INSIDE OUT, lol, and can pass, rebound, use either hand, has a great touch, and he's only 20!? :o  Well, now - I'm an idiot, lol. ;D

I don't know...  I think Zeller gives us just as much--maybe more, than Nurkic.  He got the start tonight against Orlando (following the Mozgov trade) and he was mediocre.  Of course he was matched up against Vucevic, but he had 8 pts, 4 rebs, 3 assts, 2 blks in 22 minutes.  He'll have his moments, but it would be fun to watch him and Baynes of SAS play against each other in the low post (as I would have liked Baynes on this roster - felt he was underrated).  But time will tell.  I think Young is gonna be a good scorer in this league in a year or two...

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
you can't always predict the future.
We did fine out of the draft. I wasn't a fan of the James Young pick but watching him more now and how quickly his NBA three point shot has developed I'm glad they rolled the dice on such a young kid.

Nurcic looks good- I'd like to see him bang for a full season as an NBA starter and see how his body copes. 82 games as a starting big man in the NBA will turn any boy into a man.

His footwork and touch are coming along very nicely at the NBA level, developing a nice Euro back to basket game too.

For all you international fans, does anybody else get the feeling that Danny is going to use a lot of these picks to draft and stash some Euros for a few years?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."
