Lavine-Wiggins-Muhammad-Bennett-Dieng I actually hope they can all live up to their potential. No way Minnesota gets that lucky though.

They will look eerily similar to how they have the past seven years: a lottery team

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Don't forget the top 3 pick they are going to get this year...and probably next.

Here's an article comparing rookie Wiggins to rookie LeBron for those interested. It's on ABC, but it's also an ESPNinsider article. It's pretty interesting. They actually conclude that Wiggins and LeBron are two incredibly different players.

They'll be solid. Shabazzz and Dieng was a nasty draft. Mid round no less.

Wiggins is a stud. LaVine and Bennett are the wild cards. Rubio, who knows?

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
They're showcasing Shabazz, I wonder if they'll go from showcasing to building, but that's a fools errand in my mind.

They'll trade Shabazz and get better, they're in a very enviable rebuilding spot. But they also had the better chip to trade. C'est la vie. Danny doesn't get to play the game on rookie.

Seriously though... Wiggins is legit.  I think we're right on the cusp of a bunch of media buzz about how he's "breaking out".  Expect to see it on the front of ESPN any day now.

He's had about 8 really impressive games in a row.  He scored 20+ in all but 1 where he had 10 points in 24 minutes.  He's doing it rather efficiently too.  The kid can shoot.

Last 5 games - 22.6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals on 52%/39%/80% shooting.  He's 19 years old...  The hype is starting to feel warranted.

And Bennett isn't as bad as people think he is.  That kid has potential.   I know it's unlikely that Kevin Love leaves Cleveland, but if he does... that seriously has a shot to be one of those trades we look back on for decades.  Getting a prospect like Wiggins for a star on the final year of his deal... that's just unprecedented.  It's completely defensible, because it helped appease King James, but in any other circumstance that's an insane haul for a potential 1 year rental for a star.

And yes, I realize they've lost 19 out of 20.  That's besides the point.  Wiggins is a superstar prospect you can build around and that team has several additional assets.

Went to a Jazz forum recently and they were all pretty angry they traded Shabazz and Dieng for Trey burke.

One note on Dieng.  Man... that guy can play and he actually defend the inside.  I know it's far more likely that they end up trading Pek and keeping Dieng as their starting center, but it would be great if we could somehow trade Sully or Oly for Dieng.

Don't sleep on the 76ers.  For as impressive as Wiggins looks, Embiid was thought to be a "vastly superior" prospect by scouts leading up to the draft.  They compared him to Hakeem seemingly without sarcasm.    Noel looks solid.   I've read some pretty glowing reviews about Dario Saric.  Michael Carter Williams is probably currently the most statistically impressive player of both rookie and sophomore classes combined.  Plus they are landing another top 5 pick this year....  that team can be nasty.

I'm jealous of both these teams.  I'm also jealous of the Parker/Greek Freak core in Milwaukee.  I really hope that team ends up close to my home in Seattle so I can follow them closely.

All 3 of those teams have better prospects than we do.

Better than Philly. I like what they're doing but not completely sold. Let's see where they are come next summer or the next.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.
