Thornton I felt played really well before injury.  We all know he can shoot lights out (and stretch the floor) but I thought he really worked on defense.  I'm fine with him suiting up but I actually would rather bradley was showcased and traded.
thorton will be traded with bass and green NO DOUBT

Stevens

He can't be that brain dead

Surely it's orders from the FO

Could that be what Stevens means here?

"This is probably the most unique situation in my coaching tenure in that we had to make a decision of who was inactive rather than the decision was already made because of injury,"said Stevens. "I've, along with others, tossed and turned and spent a lot of time thinking about it."

Two words: showcase.

I understand that they need to show that Thornton is healthy, but what can we honestly get for him? I'm not onboard for all of this showcasing if it merely means virtually useless second round picks. If nothing else, Thornton is an expiring contract, and I'd rather have that plus developmental time for our draft picks than some virtually useless future second.
I was saying the same thing to my friend, that we should not showcase and just sit them out until a trade opens up. He reminded me that the NBA can be political and those players' agents may hold a grudge and screw us in the future.

Virtually useless?

Really?

I don't think Stevens is showcasing anyone and he is not trying to lose on purpose.  He thinks Thorton gives him the best chance to win.  Nothing more.

What does showcasing Thorton do? He is a known commodity . He is a 10 mil expiring , meaning teams looking to acquire him would want to send us long term salary back for Thorton to be worth trading for . We already have the TPE , Green, Bass and Wright all as expiring contracts if we need to make a big money deal .

I seriously hate this line of thinking by Stevens

Play Young you fools

You're so right. Doubtful Thornton's value will fluctuate much between now, and the trading deadline. Healthy or not, if we deal him, we're unlikely to garner anything of merit. Time to turn the page...time to play Young.

Yep. Usually they're nothing more than throw-ins in trades.

Sure, maybe their unguaranteed contracts give them a little bit of value, but second round picks are hardly ever hit on.

I don't get this coach, players who play well deserve minutes, James played well and deserves another 15 or so minutes this game to see if he can continue to preform. James Young's ceiling might be higher than any of us though, he created off the dribble well and that's something we desperately need.

Young could be more than just a shooter.

Mind blowing insanity.

How can this happen. The kid had a breakout game and then he gets shelved?

I got a few swear words for Stevens right now.

It's exactly how I'd try to develop rookies. :P
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Celtic blog moderators,

Please remove the swearing filter for this thread. I got a few swears I'd like to use.

I mean, it's not like we're saying to start him. JUST GIVE HIM THE CHANCE TO PLAY OVER SOMEONE WHO IS A JOURNEYMAN AND ISN'T PART OF OUR FUTURE.

And to think that there was someone in that thread about James Young being the best shooter we've had since Ray Allen who said that, "there's no way that Stevens can hold him back now," and I told s/he - DON'T JINX HIM.  Ugh.  I wish that I could say that I'm surprised by this turn of events, but I'm not.  Who cares about Marcus Thornton?  He hasn't played in a few weeks, and now, just because he's feeling better, he automatically gets playing time, when Young has been busting his butt in the d-league, desperately waiting for his chance, only to finally seize it, and have the coach take it away from him?  Stevens is even worse than I thought, lol. ::)
