Cavs to use OKC 1st to get big man?

Sam Amico is reporting on twitter that the Cavs plan to flip with OKC pick for a big man. They now have the pick and they still hold the TE from the bogans trade.

The 3 guys I can see fitting this trade are (in order of who i think Cavs prefer)

1. Mozgov

2. Koufos

3. Wright

1. Seems like a possibility but with a year remaining on a reasonable deal I would think the Nuggets could get a better return for Mozgov.

2. I find it hard to believe Memphis is going to just move Koufas for a pick unless its part of a bigger trade (maybe Green going to Mempis, Koufas to Cavs, and Prince and OKC pick to boston).

3. A straight trade of Wright for OKC pick makes sense for both teams.

I also don't see Memphis trading Koufos, they like him and he's a great back up and insurance if Gasol or Randolph go down. Plus if Gasol walks next year they may need to keep him as a stop-gap.

If the Celtics trade Wright would they be giving up on him too soon? The Celtics have been looking for someone down low for quite some time now but don't seem to give him much of a chance to show off his skills.

Mozgov seems like a decent possibility... A first rounder for him isn't a bad deal for Denver.

I'm sure they'd prefer not to wait til the trade deadline for Wright.  The sooner they can integrate a new player, the better.

do you know what the protections are going forward?  I would think that if Durant comes back and stays on the court there's little risk to the protection being invoked but right now OKC has some climbing to do in the standings.

if we could flip Wright for that pick, I'd do it without hesitation.  he's not part of the future regardless of what others may think about our need for a big man.  the guy is a journeyman role player -- not a foundation player.  if we can get a 1st for him, let's do it.

Agree ...I think we could use the pick to draft a better big prospect than wright .  Cavs need help now ,  I could see a trade .

This is a really interesting situation.

(1) This makes sense, but Mozgov is under affordable control for two years. One late first rounder isn't a good return.

(2) I would be completely shocked if Memphis traded Koufos; he is invaluable to them right now as contenders.

(3) That would be perfect for US, but not for Cleveland. They need a defensive anchor. Wright is awesome, but he's a finisher and a help defender.

If I was Cleveland, the players I'd be asking about would be Omer Asik and Kevin Garnett. Both are expiring. Both are on go-nowhere teams that are hungry for a way to build. Both are intelligent and experienced bigs who can make fast transitions.

I'm sure they'd prefer not to wait til the trade deadline for Wright.  The sooner they can integrate a new player, the better.

They can trade for Wright at any point, so long as he isn't traded in combination with other players (that's the simple version).

Not a chance they get Asik for that little.  I don't see him even being available without a much higher offer. They'll try and retain him.

Garnett might help someone the short run.  He could get used up really fast.  But he didn't like playing center and Rebounding five years ago.   Plus he won't give lots of minutes and will be nearly 40 next year..   That would be desperation to take KG ...he is liable to break any minute

They need somebody who can play a lot of minutes and not get worn out easy.  It would take three KG at his age.

belive its top 18 2015, then top 15 2016,2017 then turns to two 2nds. I expect OKC to break the top 18 this year so it will likely be a similar pick to the clippers.


As fare as Asik and KG I cant see a way the Cavs obtain either with their cap situation. I think they will be married to the offer of 5.3mill TPE and a late first. Then they will have to look for a vet who is bought out, existing vet FA or China for an additional big.

I could see them signing Dalembert and trading with the Cs for Wright to fill their void inside this season.

Like some other posters I had hoped that Wright would get 30 mpgs so that we could see if he was a keeper. Clearly, that is not going to happen and we should move him for an expiring plus a draft choice. Cleveland probably believes that they can get more of a pure center and like CFAN38 said he is more of a backup plan. At this point, let's just keep moving veterans for expirings and draft choices until we get down to our future nucleus of young players. They need to play big minutes and we are in full tank mode. Cauley-Stein, Towns, Turner, or even Okafor(pipedream) would be great additions.

I do not see them trading to us now without a third team.  I 'd toss them Sullinger and Wright in a heartbeat for the right deal.

Even if they miss out on the top centers, there are a few promising small forwards in Stanley Johnson, Winslow, and Oubre is coming on lately.  There's also Porzingis who may have potential.
