Maybe I should rephrase my original question:

After gutting the team of talent and hiring a rookie head coach after it was clear the KG-Pierce-Rondo-Doc teams wouldn't win another title, just how good did you expect this current team to be? Did you expect a playoff team? A .500 record?
I've been saying since this past summer that this roster is a bottom-5 team.  The team was a bit higher than that in the standings but due more to other teams with better rosters really underperforming (Indy, NY, LA, Detroit) than the C's overperforming.

Now that Rondo has been traded, this team will certainly sink further in the standings.  I've been posting a weekly standings review in a different thread that has shown how the 'better' teams have been gaining on the C's since their 'good' start.  Given another 20 games, C's will be in the bottom 5 teams (probably won't need more than 10 for that to occur)

I expected us to stink around 27-32 wins.   I expected Ainge to deal Rondo and Green if he could not get another piece which part of that happened.

Right now, folks the lottery is our best bet to improve the team.

I hope we can sign one or two impact players.

Now I think only Smart and Young might be decent prospects.   KO will be a solid bench guy. Sully is one way player who is a liability on D who can give you 15 and 8 and still be -15 in PER because he can't or won't play D.  He has to go once the tanking stops but is good for it.

I must say I'm dumbfounded by some of the negativity on this blog (cue Pitino rant). That especially goes for how the discussion seems to be headed with regard to Danny and Brad.

When your team trades away two all stars, your third all star tears his acl (and is ultimately traded), and then lets go the coach who brought you a title... How did you think it would be?

Danny got an astounding boatload of picks in exchange for KG, Pierce, and Doc and tried to leverage them into another star to pair with Rondo. Well, he tried but it didn't quite work out (the Cavs improbably winning the lottery had something to do with it). So we are on to plan B.

The goal right now is not to win games. The goal is to develop talent and stockpile assets to use when the right trade opens up.

It sucks, but... how exactly did you expect it to be?

I feel like I agree with everything you're saying, except for certain instances such as last night's game. When one bad team (Boston) has a home game against another bad team that's missing some of its best players (the Hornets), Boston should win that game. But other than that, yeah, I expect lots of losses, but not necessarily a top-3 pick ... because, you know, Cleveland.

If you look at the overall body of work of the team for the season, I would say it is about what most people would expect, maybe even a little better.  But if you look at that individual game last night, that was not what anyone expected.  That was bad.

So we have to see what we are going to get for the balance of the season.  Hopefully, last night's game will not turn out to be representative of what the rest of the season will be.  If it is, then all the complaints are valid in my opinion, but I don't think will be.  I think this team will have better days ahead as compared to last night.

We aren't going to make the playoffs this year, but I think it is reasonable to expect better effort and execution than we saw last night.
