Trade is
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=kb4ja6wTO BOSTON: Russell Westbrook, Lance Thomas (immediately waived), and Grant Jerret.
TO OKC: Jeff Green, Marcus Smart, Jared Sullinger.
Why Boston does it: It makes them worse in the short term and allows them to cash in on another great draft class. It also gives them a 26 year old entering his prime Point Guard to build around. Jeff Green is opting out after this year, Marcus Smart's ceiling is uncertain and certainly not to the level of Westbrook. Sullinger is a good player, but he's really just a roleplayer and is imo the worst out of our 2 young PF's (the other being Olynyk).
Why OKC does it: OKC has not been able to get over the hump and that is in part to Westbrook not meshing with the team. Durant and Westbrook are both scorers and Westbrooks money would be better used getting a center to help Ibaka, some roleplayers, or a pass first PG. Sullinger gives them another rock under the rim and lets them rely less on the slow and decaying Kendrick Perkins. Green make his reunion with the team and can help to give Durant some rest as they both play similar games. And finally they get a young prospect in Smart to help play point and lock down opposing point guards.
