As an intriguing prospect in Europe, the Boston Celtics, Sacramento Kings and Utah Jazz are keeping tabs on undrafted Iowa State guard DeAndre Kane, league sources told RealGM.

Kane, a rookie, has averaged 14 points, 5.7 rebounds and five assists in the EuroChallenge for Antwerp in Belgium. Although his deal with the club is expected to run through the remainder of the NBA’s regular season, Kane will likely be a free-agent workout candidate and summer league participant for those NBA teams interested.

In his senior season at Iowa State, Kane played 36 games while averaging 17.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.9 assists. He led the university to the Sweet Sixteen and emerged as a player invited to last May’s draft combine in Chicago.

After going unselected in the draft, the 6-foot-4 Kane played for the Los Angeles Lakers in the July summer league, where he averaged 5.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 19.7 minutes per game.

Something to keep in mind about Kane: He's 3 months older than Jimmy Butler, who was on the older side for a draftee back in 2011.

You know a lot of people go to college for seven years

Hey, everyone's different.  Besides, are you factoring in grad school, lol (not that it applies in this case)? ;D I always thought that every member of the Tennessee Women's basketball team was at least on the 5 year plan, lol.  Or at least it seemed that way, haha. ;D

That aside, I'd bring him to camp.  Sure, he's another guard, lol, but maybe he'll surprise us, and we need all the talent that we can get right now.  Ugh.  I do remember being surprised that he wasn't drafted, and he kind of sounds like a cross between Smart and Terrence Williams, so take from that what you will, haha. ;D

Miss Rondo's gaudy triple doubles?

Consider this:Kane is the only player in NCAA history to have amassed more than 2,000 points, 700 rebounds and 600 assists.

He is tough as nails.  Imagine Smart, Kane and Crowder together defending the perimeter.

Kane is a fine player to take a flyer on with a largely non-guaranteed deal for a few years.  Her's capable of being a reserve/energy player on a bad team, with an upside of being that on a good team.  If he doesn't reach that upside, or something better comes along, you can cut bait without much lost.

Sounds like his agent's drumming up interest for him.

this team does not need good role players
we have an entire team of them
we need building blocks and stars

It is possible that the Celtics are going utilize Brad Stevens coaching ability to the max.  He is used to utilizing more than 6-7 players a night.  Stars are way over hyped and over paid.  There are many basketball players capable of playing in the NBA.  The league has always built up "stars" by spoon feeding them free throws, official calls, giving them minutes and visibility, etc....

If the Celtics can pull off a competitive team year in and year out by building a team, college style of cycling players through for 3 or 4 years...it would be and exciting and refreshing change to the NBA game - and not have to pay the big salaries, too.

Think outside the box and embrace the pace.  Let's raise some Kane!
Everyone wants truth on his side, not everyone wants to be on the side of truth.

Would've been fun to take a flyer on him this year.

Guard.
A guard who abused Marcus Smart head to head in both Big 12 matchups last year?

In Stillwater against Smart.... Kane went for 29-9-9
In Ames against Smart......Kane went 27-7-8

Both OT wins for ISU
