But......

"All the draft picks in the world don't mean anything unless you pick the right guys. If you use your picks on J.R. Giddens, Fab Melo and JaJuan Johnson, you'd have been better off with no picks. There are steals late in every draft. Jimmy Butler, Marc Gasol, and DeAndre Jordan to name a few guys Danny passed on."

Are Sully, KO, Smart the future? Or are they trade assets for future all stars looking to get out?

Do we have enough assets to trade for these all stars if and when they are available? Maybe we can use more assets to choose a real winner in the lottery?

The shot that never goes in, is the one you don't take. We need more shot attempts.

Giddens was #30th, Melo #22nd and Johnson #27th pick - there is allways a risk those guys not makin an impact. As GM you sometimes make a great catch and some of those picks need years to develop into what they are today but you will have a hard time forsee that.

Blaming Ainge on not picking Jimmy Butler, Marc Gasol or DeAndre Jordan is to some degree pretty stupid. Why? Cause if GMs would have known how they develop Ainge wouldnt have had been able to pick them in the first place because they would have been gone allready.

Also in the 2008 draft the Celtics were obv trying to fill the holes in their roster going forward into the season - if I want to win a campionship I do that instead of lookin for a guy who might one day develop into a good player. What do I care what is in n-years when I have to win the next championship.

KO has grown on me quite a bit. He's super savvy, which serves him well despite his athletic limitations. And although he can't defend the average pre-pubescent female, he's a far better offensive player than I thought he'd be at this level.

That said, I hope he is not our future.

My gut tells me Frank Kaminsky will find his way to our roster next season. He just fits the bill far too well. Lol. I can't wait.

For every Giddens, Melo's, & Johnson's, there are Rondo's, Allen's, and Perkin's.

That 2016 draft is a huge event.  Ainge probably has 4 first rounders then, for a huge draft.

Fab Melo was a bad pick. Ainge's worst ever, but drafting has an element of chance to it so I think Ainge is smart to stockpile picks.  That just means we get to roll the dice more times.  Think of how many even #1 picks have turned out to be busts.

Now the caveat is "to a point".  Four first round picks in one year is too many just from a roster management standpoint so yes, I expect that there will be trades that include some of these future picks.  I am not sure what we can get for these picks but I am sure that Danny will try some things.

I don't think we need more assets to trade for one of the players mentioned, we need higher quality assets.  I don't think trading any of the players currently on our roster will accomplish that.

Marcus Smart, our 2015 (likely) lottery pick, and the Brooklyn picks have the potential to become highly valuable assets.  We need to be patient at this point and allow that to occur.

I hadn't paid much attention to this guy until now. I watched some draft reports.
On the negative side:
-he seems to struggle with the same issues as our bigs do now (mediocre D, especially against PnR), not a great defensive rebounder, not very explosive, not great wingspan for his height.
Having said this (and especially given we'll probably be on the second half of the lottery pick), he is a realistic choice (some mock drafts place him outside the top-10), he is a 7 footer who can shoot 3s (a stretch 5 I guess  ;D), he can box out and and block reasonably well. Smart, AB, Young, Kelly, Kaminsky, running up and down the floor like crazy and shooting 3s like there's no tomorrow. That will be fun to watch  ;D

I agree. I think Smart is our best asset at this point. He may/may not have a high ceiling, and I'm sure plenty of teams will be willing to take a cheap gamble on him. I think I'd definitely include him in a package for a star.

So, you want to trade Olynyk in for Kaminsky?

I'm not sure I understand why.

No, not necessarily. I hadn't even thought of that. It would be nice to have a legit post presence, though. Eventually we will need one... can't rely on stretch 4/5s for the foreseeable future. I wouldn't choose Kaminsky, however (albeit I do like his game), to fill that role (ideally). I could see him being similar to Zeller, actually. Just more polished around the basket. Has nice post moves, seems to have been well-coached. Went from nothin to somethin overnight at Wisconsin.

Kaminsky is basically a Zeller who can shoot 3s.
Okafor/Towns have without question the better prospects, Kaminsky is closer to what a non top-5 pick will get us.

Agreed. I wonder what we would do with like the 4th or 5th pick. Mundiay? That could mean demoting/moving Smart... but he seems to be right up there in top 5. Some analysts have him higher (draft express at #2).

No clue. If we get that lucky, we might as well trade our pick.
If we end up keeping the draft, with all these bigs available, I find it unlikely we'd use such a blessing of good luck for a PG. But again, predictions are difficult especially about the future  ;D

We already have all the assets (players and picks) needed to make a trade, we just need to make one.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

I just have a feeling we're going to end up with Willie Cauley-Stein. The two bigs we should really want should be gone, (Okafor/Towns) by our anticipated pick.

Unless we actually get friendly ping pong ball.
