Rondo looks worse post-ACl, but he is still a solid player who could help us become a contender if surrounded by the right pieces. So where does he rank amongst NBA pgs?

Top Tier

Westbrook, Paul and Curry- all definitely better than Rondo

Allstar Tier

Wall, Lillard, Irving, Lowry, Conley, Parker, Dragic, Rose and Rondo.

I would probably rank Rondo toward the second half of the all-star group. Somewhere in the 8-12 range.    IMO, he is a good player in the 60-75th percentile range but not good enough to build a team around. Where does everyone else think he ranks?

Currently. Not considering reputation, past achievements etc.

Top Tier

Westbrook, Paul, Parker and Curry- no question are better than Rondo

Allstar Tier

Wall, Lillard, Irving, Lowry, Conley,Dragic, Bledsoe - Better than Rondo.  Most gms will take one of these players than Rondo

Third tier

Rondo, Rose, Teague, Lawson, Rubio, Deron Williams,  Kemba Walker

Ok I like Teague and Lawson but Kemba and Rubio are not even close to the same tier as Rondo.

I would put Rondo somewhere between Bledsoe and Conley. If he can fix his jumper to where it was pre injury, then he'll be back to being a top 3 pg.

Yeesh, this league is absolutely jacked with point guards.

It has come to that time of day
For yet another Rondo thread
Where it doesn't matter what you say
Someone will get mad

So run along and try elsewhere
There are many threads on Celticsblog
Somewhere where people are more sincere
Like that Lance Stephenson thread, or that Clips thread, just avoid this bog

But if you choose to stay then, sir or madam, you've been warned
You are now entering a groundhog day
Horses beaten, arguments worn
And your feelings will for sure get torn

I did this before but, just counting this season, guys who are playing better than Rondo (in no particular order):

CP3
Westbrook
Parker
Curry
Lillard
Irving
Wall
Lowry
Teague
Bledsoe/Dragic (not sure who is actually the point the majority)
Derrick Rose
Deron Williams

After that names like Collison, Brandon Knight come to mind, but I'd feel gross putting them on the list.

I like your list. I'm surprised you have Curry ranked behind Parker. He's probably my #2 so far this year, perhaps even my #1.

I don't know how to sort out Lillard/Irving/Wall. I think I'd go with Wall/Lillard/Irving myself but they're all quite close IMHO.

I don't think there's any question Brandon Knight has been better this season than Rondo has. If you want to argue that Rondo's reputation affords him some bonus points then I think Derrick Rose is far too low.

(Unrelated to your list) While Rondo's positional value hurts him, I wouldn't go as far as to say that he's as valuable as the 12-15th best SG in the league (i.e. Rondo=Bradley). I still think he can fetch a fair return (I've been pushing the idea of the NOP pick from HOU lately), but it is disheartening that we may never see the Rondo of old again, at least not in Celtic green.

Though it has been years since Allen, Pierce and Garnett have left, it seems like the final wish of nostalgic fans was to recreate the success the Big Three had here in Boston with its most intriguing piece now at the helm: Rondo. Though I can say with confidence that I'm one of those who quickly recovered from the Summer of '13 nuke fest of the Cs' foundation, I can also say with sincerity that I am disappointed that Rondo will never again be the fascinating, enthralling game-changer that he once was, at least not in green.

Rondo at the moment is definitely not a star PG, let alone top 10 in his position. The other plethora of PGs are clearly thriving and scoring a lot more points than him. Yes he leads in assists and triple-doubles but those aren't making us win games. I'd say if he was playing like he was in 2012-2013 he'd be top 10 easy, under the top 5 IMO (like at # 9 below Parker, Irving, Rose and deff not in top 5 like CP3, Westbrook, Curry, Wall, Lowry). 2 points a game is embarrassing for us Celtics faithful to even try and defend, and his pathetic FT% is borderline disgraceful. If he ends the season at 8 PPG as he is now he definitely ain't even top 15 anymore. That's how bad he's been compared to the other PGs and he shouldn't even sniff that max contract. From 12 million to 16 million, that's how much I think he's worth, and that's being polite for all his past contributions.

To trade straight up so you can get them for their careers I'd trade him for several guys.

For a playoff series that starts today?  I'm not sure there's anyone. Maybe CP3. Maybe. Maybe Tony Parker.

I just want to point out that with the possible exceptions of maaayybbee Dragic and Wall every single player on that list has a stronger supporting cast than Rondo. Yet he leads all pgs in rebs and assists.

If you think you're going to trade like Conley straight up for Rondo and expect the Celts to get better you are just wrong for whatever reason.

It's also a little bizarre to imply Rondo has health issues and these guys don't. Who has been healthier over the course of their careers? Some of these guys had pretty bad issues and at younger ages. There was a time you could sneeze and make S Curry miss like 30 games.

Agreed. Mike Conley is way underrated around here.
