just watched a highlite of him playing d his footwork and stance was exceptional-young gets all the fuss but i think powell has outplayed him watching all the red claw tapes and one game-real good motor for a 6-11-nice spin move ,can put ball on floor after rebound and break out -does all the kelly stuff  getting to hoop-now add a three and more muscle -he is a sleeper---young can shoot and has pedigree and more time but powell is a 6 11 athletic guy-- a not quite aaron gordon

From the games and highlights I've watched of the two, as good as Powell is all-around on offense and defense Young is twice the player on the offensive end. He just looks like he's playing with the defense out there, and he's been absolutely killing it with his shot. For players at their skill level I think they have to have one exceptional skill. Young has his shot, but Powell doesn't really seem to excel in any one area.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

Well, Young just dislocated his shoulder in a Red Claws game the other day, so that's kind of a moot point right now.

He has freakish athleticism, but what would his role be on this team?  I can't see it.

He's about the same height as Anthony Davis, but gives up 5 inches in wingspan.  As Tommy says, it's a game of inches.

So because your wingspan isn't as long as Anthony Davis', you suddenly can't have a role in the NBA?

I don't think it's fair to say that Powell has outplayed Young based on watching a highlight.  Perhaps Powell has simply out-video edited Young.

Edit:  My apologies to the OP.  I misread your post.  One infant not sleeping through the night = low reading comprehension.

Of course Powell looks better than Young. He's 23 y/o.

James Young is only 19 y/o. Now just image what Young's game will look like in four years when he is 23 y/o.

Yeah, I can't wait either.

Notice the use of paragraphs to separate ideas.

1. I can't see a clear role for him.
2. It's interesting that he's the same height as Anthony Davis but his wingspan is 5" shorter.

Bruno Cabacalo has a really long wingspan.

I can imagine a role for him.

i did mention pedigree and ability to shoot. You don't start for Kentucky that young without being special even gifted. The celts were smart taking that young boy probably an assassin by nature, where i think powell will work hard at his weakness and fill out but he can do a lot of things most 7 footers can't do -thinking and timing in motion offense is critical -these big guys can also be taught to shoot, just they haven't been given the chance in college-even the red claws are playing him at center--sully is way up there now shooting threes ,how many people criticized that move by stevens---remember we didn't even draft this kid----was never meaning to down young but to build up powell

Young has one of the sweetest looking shots I have ever seen.

the kid is definitely a player, have you watched powells tapes 21 pts 17 rebounds but even better somewhere there was tape of him playing d-one on one top of the key, this guy tried everything but powell had perfect sliding stance, quick lateral motion and beat him to spot  side to side for like 10 seconds-a joy to watch a big play d like a guard-i know this is d league but he gets to the hoop off dribble and with reverse quickly and to watch him rebound and just dribble out like a guard or beat the opposition  center down court for dunk-also was impressed with his touch and economy of movement. He doesn;t always dunk just lays off glass, there was a slashing move to hoop and dunk over somebody at a crazy angle-just showed his athleticism---
