Its getting pathetic that the only positive thing to be said about Rondo is his cheerleading on the bench!

Him and Crash on the bench - two players with bloated contracts - nice.

We got our millions! Yea!

So we got Wallace as part of a deal to trade KG for 4 unprotected first rounders from a probable lottery team at some point in that span; to put us in position to tank last year (we got Marcus Smart); and for cap flexibility after this season (Wallace & Thorton expire for about $20 million combined).  Why would you complain about anything in regards to that deal?  The Pierce / KG Celtics at the end were so painful to watch.  KG is averaging 7.3 Points Per Game / 8.3 Rebounds Per Game and has tried to bite someone more times than he has Blocks Per Game this season.  He isn't bad, but it was time to move on.

Also, if you were in Gerald Wallace's shoes, would you just go "ok well I guess I'm not an all-star anymore, here you go rich guys who own the team and have way more money than I will ever come close to having.  Please take your money back because I am the most comically moral person who ever lived?"  Of course not.  That is ridiculous.

On top of that, Rondo is leading the league in Assists and is making $2 million less this year than Jeremy Lin.

You seriously need to check your facts if you think Rondo's current contract is bloated.

What did you expect Rondo to do while he was sitting on the bench? Take his ball and go home? He handled himself like a pro, he cheered his team on, he's the team captain. The entire Celtic nation was watching, he did what he should have done, be a cheerleader.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
Rondo had about as much leadership last night as a guy at the end of the bench - he was a cheer leader.

Rondo has had alot of practice cheerleading on the bench the last couple years with his mysterious knee and finger injuries.

There's nothing mysterious about his ACL injury  ::)

He faked the torn ACL. It was only in his head, he could've played.

What did you expect Rondo to do while he was sitting on the bench? Take his ball and go home? He handled himself like a pro, he cheered his team on, he's the team captain. The entire Celtic nation was watching, he did what he should have done, be a cheerleader.

Don't you know Rondo and Satan are one in the same? Let some posters around here tell it, Rondo ran off the bench and tackled Marcus Smart mid play. Then he took the ball and went home.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

I agree with everything you said, but I want to correct you that Wallace still has another year left on his deal after this one.

If you read CB, you would think Rondo has such a miserable and prickly personality that there's no way he would handle a benching well. Especially for a rookie PG and a bunch of bench players and especially when he's a 4-time allstar in a contract year...

Instead, Rondo was up cheering, rooting, and encouraging Smart.

Quote
"I'm very competitive," [Rondo] said. "I wanted to play. I wanted to compete and be on the floor. But the guys in front of me, the guys who were out there, were playing great. And I didn't want to mess up any momentum."

The guard added: "There was no communication (between him and Stevens) but there was nothing needed. Like I said, the guys did a great job making a run out there. Our bench did a great job tonight and they deserved to play."

Quote
“Give Rondo as much credit as anyone else on our team,” Stevens told reporters after the game. “Rondo’s the loudest guy on the bench. Rondo’s running out at timeouts. Rondo was active. I think Rondo was very comfortable in saying, ‘Let’s bring this home.’ I give him a lot of credit for being that kind of guy, because he doesn’t have to be.”

I know a pro-Rondo thread is about as cool as taxes around here, but this was really cool for me to see.

tp to the op.

Glass half full:  It was an underrated display of leadership, with a star player subjugating his ego for the good of the team

Glass half empty:  It's sad that we have to congratulate the captain of our team for showing professionalism and acting like a captain

I agree with OP I noticed it myself as well. He was pulling for his team to win and having fun cheering on a group of guys playing their hearts out. A sign of being a good teammate for sure.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

I don't think the thread was meant to praise Rondo, more to chide the multitude of posts about how Rondo's too much of  a head case to deal with a situation like that.

we're not congratulating the captain for acting like a captain, where pointing out to the fellowship of the miserable that he is actually a good captain.

it seems simple and easy enough, but theres been plenty of higher profile players who pout and complain when they get benched

The Brooklyn trade was for 3 first rounders, not 4. We do have the right to pick swap picks in 2017 however. Also, Wallace's deal expires in 2016, not 2015.

I'm a rondo fan and I think it's completely lame that C's fans feel they need to applaud rondo for not being upset and being a cheerleader. the whole thing just makes me cringe.

and as much as it "looks" great that Rondo appears to be a team guy by doing this, I think it solidifies the argument of "is he a superstar/leader type". he's not, these types have egos & they explode in similar situations.

could you imagine pierce being in a similar situation here(in fact I think doc did bench him one time early on and pierce was pretty upset)? pierce would have blown up or sulked on the bench if he wasn't put back in. like it or not it's true.

Well, I can see where it could rub some the wrong way, saying that Rondo deserves "more credit" for simply doing what a captain -- and really, a teammate -- is supposed to do.
