What's up with the "Bye bye Rondo" threads?

Rondo plays 34 minutes - We win

Rondo plays 20 minutes - We lose

??????

Seems like it's spitting right in your face, no?

How are you confused??  Rondo simply did NOT come to play tonight.  He had a +1 Efficiency Rating and we were -15 points with him on the court.  On the other hand, Smart had a +27 Efficiency Rating and we were +13 points with him on the court!!!

We have a higher winning percentage without Rondo than with him over the last four years.

Rondo ranked 29th, 26th, and 31st in PER for all point guards over the last three years.

It is time to trade Rondo.

Yeah take stats without context, very smart of you. Kudos also for using a very scoring biased stat like PER to back up your point.  ::)

+1.  I ignore any poster who use PER as evidence to support their claim.  Garbage stat.

How about +/- while on the court????????????????????  Does that matter??????????????????????????????????

In all seriousness, I have to ask...Are you a robot, stubborn, or dealing with a very serious reading comprehension disorder?

I'm going to assume he realizes that Smart was the better option on THIS night and that we probably would have lost in regulation with Rondo playing the whole 4th, but is just poking fun at all of the knee-jerk, 'Trade Rondo,' reactions.

Sometimes it's just fun to point out a simple fact that just happened to true tonight - when Rondo played more, we won, but when playing less, we lost.

0pts,  4ast,  3to.  Tired from the back2back or still recovering from injury.

or less than 1/2 the game played.

Down 9 at the start of the 3rd.   Subbed out 5min to go in the 3rd.   Down 23.

My position has always been the same. Rondo should be dealt if a fair offer is made for him.

Rondo doesn't bring consistent effort, he is afraid to shoot almost every game and regularly afraid to dribble in the paint. Steven's set plays were far more effective tonight with Smart in because they weren't play 4 on 5 with Rondo refusing to do anything but pound the ball at the top of the key until someone gets open.

That being said Rondo has value. He is the best passer in the game, and when he is on there are few better. Dealing him without getting a good return is foolish. Even if you hate his game, any rational person knows that he is better than what we would have in his roster spot if we just let him walk as a free agent.

Danny isn't going to trade Rondo unless he gets good value. However, the potential of Smart has shown us that we don't need to get a point guard back in a Rondo deal.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Or secret option C: Marcus Smart was on fire and helped lead the Celtics into double overtime.

I gotcha!!  That being said, I do NOT take lightly how Rondo frequently (and more frequently this year than usual) takes nights virtually COMPLETELY OFF!!!  That is NOT being a professional and that is NOT being a good ROLE MODEL for Smart, Oly, etc.!!!

I am ready to trade him to the Kings for Collison, D. Williams (waive or buy out), Stauskas, and this year's King's first rounder!!  We would trade RR and Fav.  (This cannot be done until December 15th or next Monday.)

I am ready for that after tonight and I LOVE Rondo.  However, I do NOT like a guy making $12 million per year taking many games OFF!!!!

I am collecting these things.

PS I hope your post was being sarcastic...

Rondo was a -15 last night.  Smart was +13.  I'm not sure the conclusion is as simple as "Rondo plays 20 minutes - We lose".

That's not to say that we should run Rondo out of town with pitchforks, but he (along with most of the starters) played poorly last night.

+/- stat is nice to look at, but it is the weakest of all numbers known to sports.

It depends upon the context, and in this context, Rondo was a big part of the problem last night, whereas Smart was a big part of the turnaround.  The +/- numbers pretty accurately reflect that.

Can someone, maybe who works at Celticsblog, take a look at +/- within the context of 5 man units?

Looking at +/-, as a stand alone metric at one particular game doesn't say a heck of a lot.

I did quick rundown over the monthly +/- minus, and I know the month of Dec is not over.

Each of Rondo, Sully, Avery and Green's +/- are drastically improved this month, but Green's improvement has been on the smaller change. Green's statistical production and efficiency has improved the most. His teammates' production have either stayed roughly the same or decreased. Their minutes and USG rating have also been less this month (so far) compared to Nov.

Based on the context of these statistics and data of evidence....I am going to say that Green is the reason our team's +/- has flipped into the positve in our favor.

As poorly as Rondo has appeared to play recently, Rondo has the 2nd highest +/- (20.5) out of the above 4 players for the early month of Dec. [Bradley is leads this group of 4 with (23.9), yet his statistical production is slighly down for Dec. but Avery's 3PT shooting efficiency has vastly increased.)

Yes that's correct, the numbers are saying that Sully (11.1) and Green's (9.2) +/- statistics are lower than Rondo and Bradley's rating.

  • The Truth
I would fire the coach and trade every single player on the team before I traded Rondo.
wow, you really love rondo. we totally sucked while he played, on a number of occasions he walked the ball up the floor(he complained that it's hard to push the ball when we get scored on almost every time, and after that i started to pay more attention to that, and noticed that even when we get a good rebound, he still walks it up)
smart killed it 23pts, and a killer defense, on pp and wall

i would like to applaud coach stevens for sticking with the bench (80something points, a franchise record btw)

another thing is, how can you say you would stick with rondo, a pg who is shooting 30% FT, and the worse fact is that he has taken 34 FT this season?

we would be lucky to get 75cents on a dollar for him right now
what doesn't kill you makes you stronger
