The full list is here: http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/sort/DRPM/position/1

I thought this was kind of funny considering how often, and sometimes justifiably, Rondo gets criticized for his defense. RPM isn't the end all be all, although it's the likely the"best" box score influenced statistic, but it does suggest that Rondo has actually not been as bad as he's appeared to be.

One last note, this year's RPM isn't prior informed. Which means it will be prone to more aberrations in it's rankings.

This should quell the "On D, Pressey>Rondo" claims but it won't.

Right ahead of Steph Curry, who is a Top 4 PG defender per RPM. *smacks forehead*

Just playing.  Interesting thread, thanks.

I have a hard time accepting these metrics. I know the intended conversation is about RPM, but according to ESPN, Tony Parker and Phil Pressey are roughly equivalent in terms of WAR.

If anyone actually thinks that Pressey is a better defender than Rondo I suggest they take a remedial class on basketball statistics, but only after they've been fitted for some extraordinarily strong glasses.

Seriously, are there any statistics that accurately measure a player's defensive impact?

I suspect it may be relevant that GSW has played a fairly easy schedule so far (8th easiest).  That would probably result in better defensive metrics for the team as a whole and thus tend to help out those of individuals as well.

It is still early in the season.  The schedule has hardly been representatively even for all teams so take all these sorts of rankings with the appropriate grain of salt.

(FWIW - The Celtics have played the 5th toughest schedule so far.)
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

As I'm sure you've noticed, there are a number of Rondo's archenemies on this site that have floated that thought.

Some of these advanced stats are getting advancingly stupid...

I literally just spent a half an hour defending Rondo in one post on the "Name 10 PGs better than Rondo" Thread, and even I admit this stat is way off. Now is Rondo doing awfully? No, especially not recently, but he's far from lock down at the moment.

I have to wonder how much playing with AB has an effect on this, just as playing with Klay Thompson (a good defender) may effect Curry's

EDIT: His negative ORPM also says that our offense is WORSE with Rondo on the floor, but from the last few games I have a hard time believing that
I'm bitter.

Opponent's field goal percentage? I'd also like to see opponent's touches. If his teammates aren't passing him the ball and he's not getting rebounds because he's being boxed out then someone is probably taking him out of the game.

If I understand those stats correctly they are some very weird stats.

Rondo keeps his man from scoring by allowing him to drive into the lane and dish off to a big for a slam.

I take it that rpm doesn't stand for 'revs per minute,' or 'rocket propelled mischief," right? ;D
