Good Old Jeff Green

Hello again guys, I'd firstly just like to thank the many of you that provided some great feedback and positivity in regards to my last post!

But the main thing that I would like to talk about today is Jeff Green. Uncle Jeff has certainly been on a big journey the past few years, he is a great team mate and a good basketballer, but I have this feeling that he would not be a needed a piece on our next championship roster. I would honestly either love to have a 3 that is either a lockdown defender, or an offensive machine (then I'd like a 2 that would be the exact opposite). Jeff is a great player but not what we need, his 19 points per game are a great number but they are also relatively misleading, Jeff is not a "Go to Guy", and sadly we have figured this out over the past few seasons, so in my mind and my dream scenario would be to trade him while his value is high and market is strong. Please in the forum answer with a yes or no and as to why you would or wouldn't trade Jeff Green!

Well I will say his value probably hasn't been any higher than it is now.  He is probably playing the best basketball of his career and at age 28 in his prime.  I think Ainge would sell high on him if the right opportunity presents itself.  However, the question becomes how many small forwards out there are better than Jeff, and which of those might become available? Or you could go the other way which SF prospect might be better than Jeff someday that could become attainable?

One possibility to my first question is Melo.

One possibility to my second question is someone like Harrison Barnes.

If I was a year or two away from a championship run I'd definitely want Green.  Not too many guys with his talent versatility.  Sure he isn't an offensive juggernaut or defensive road block but the man is the definition of NBA "Jack of all trades" player. He clearly can be an x-factor keeping our team in some games but he isn't the guy who when hot is untouchable and gets us the win. I see Green as a okay 3rd option / good 4th option in an offense and a solid defender. Basically he is a high level role player. If you can pay him at 12 million a year or less (with new cap coming I believe 12 million is like current 9-10 million contract levels) then sign him. Even if rebuilding you may want to still pay and keep him as the talented veteran in the locker room that will help young guys learn to be pros.

I agree that now is the time to move him based on quality of play, but his contract is a killer.

He has a player option for next year...and at his current level of play, there's a significant chance he opts out. So, he's most likely a half-year rental who will want a big payday.

For contender that might be appealing, but said contender wouldn't give up much beyond a late 1st in exchange.

I've been thinking that Charlotte makes a lot of sense, but while they could really use him for the longer term, it would be very risky to surrender a good prospect (e.g., Vonleh) with that uncertainty.
