http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/11982075/breakfast-kobe-bryant-los-angeles-lakers-rajon-rondo-boston-celtics-simply-that:

Quote
The intriguing and much photographed breakfast between Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant and Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo Thursday morning in Boston was indeed, just breakfast.

The two stars had planned on meeting up for a meal when the Lakers were in Boston for weeks, sources told ESPN.com.

While there are no active talks between the two franchises involving a trade for Rondo, sources said the teams did have a brief discussion a few months ago.

It's not clear which team initiated the call.

Rondo will be a free agent this summer and sources stressed that the Celtics would prefer to re-sign him.

...

Should the teams re-engage in discussions about Rondo, sources indicated Boston would likely ask for at least one first-round draft pick.

1st observation: The phone call probably went like this:

Buss family: Danny! Hope you had a swell summer. We know Jeremy Lin did. Do you want him? Please?

Danny:

*dial tone*

2nd observation: For some reason the last sentence of the excerpt makes me uneasy. I don't know if anyone can confirm this for me with a link but I feel as if at this time last year all indications pointed to the Cs wanting more than "at least a first round pick." The rhetoric last December or so seemed to be more along the lines of "at least a mid-first round pick and a good young player."

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

The Paramount is not a place where Rondo and Kobe would go for the food, the ambiance, or the conversation. It's a place where Rondo could rub the meeting in the face of his coach (and under-appreciative fans) the morning after his momentary benching that Stevens "immediately regretted".

Talk about Captain Obvious.  "Sources indicated Boston would likely ask for at least one first-round draft pick."  Those are some pretty smart sources you've got there Forsberg.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Had to have rung up someone at MIT for that one.

I bet all the Lakers forums are going more crazy then CB did when Love visited Boston. Those fools.. Bet they argue if Julius Randle was still there they would be 13-2!

Sam Jones looks kind of plump on this picture...

I'm sure it was simply social, but it's still interesting that the Lakers and Celtics talked Rondo trade this offseason.

I imagine Boston would have done it if the Lakers were willing to include Randle instead of some lame late 1st rounder from Houston.

Any ideas regarding possible Randle/three-team trades?

Danny will pay Rondo max money -- but only if another team offers him that much. The front office wants to let Rondo test the FA waters so everyone can get a better sense of his true perceived market value. If no other team offers max money, there may be some savings available by not resigning him now.

TP for excellent use of terminology ;D
I think the only places where you can find true and perceived right next to each other are financial newspapers and medieval theology books.
