I've been watching the game. Young's shot is so smooth, and he'll end up being a pretty dang good scorer in the NBA. His defense is suspect, though. As for Smart, his shot selection is atrocious. He's taken nine shots (all threes) and missed them all.
... not watching the game, but that statement 1000% suggests that the Celtics sent him to the D-League with the #1 priority of working on his 3-point shot in game situations.  9 attempts in d-league is fine... 9 attempts in the NBA is a problem.   He's there to work on his flaws.  Clearly 3-point shooting his his flaw.

We should send Rondo to the D-league... tell him to drive to the lane a lot and get fouled so he can work on his free throw shooting in game situations.

See, I would be fine with doing this to some degree but not during his rookie season. His rookie season should be about improving on what he does well already to build his confidence and set him up for a great career. Instead I'm sure hes frustrated with his lack of improvement in areas his coach is clearly breathing down his neck to improve.

This is not how I think management should go about developing its young talent.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

Geez that was a brutal game for Smart.

Multiple airballs from 3 and clunking everything else.

I thought his early poor shooting was nerves but I'm starting to have serious doubts about this pick.

In this case I don't believe it's the player but more the philosophy the coach/management is trying to force onto him.

Really you're having doubts about him already? Sigh

he's a tony Allen/ Lance Stephenson type player. Don't ever think he will be a good shooter , maybe average at best ?

Yes. I'm watching him play now, expecting bad shooting nights. I thought at worse he would be a 40 percent shooter and would hopefully improve. But I think he's more of a mid to high 30s percent shooter. He also is a lot worse at finishing around the rim then I thought when we drafted him.

It's too bad that guy who worked with Bradley's shot left the team. Smart needs a lot of work on that shot. He seems off balanced a lot and seems like a long motion from when he catches or gathers the ball to when he shoots.

It wasn't just the fact that they were threes, though. The last several shots were with guys in his face, and even the commentators were talking about it.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

The guy barely hasn't even played ten games and is been out for weeks with an ankle injury it's a process for smart regarding his jumper be patient

The two questions raised by this game.

1. Why are we letting Marcus Smart bomb away from 3.

2. Why is James Young not playing Thorntons role on the Celtics right now.

I know it's the D league but sometimes you can just tell how good someone is anyways. Young is gonna be special. Reminds me when I first saw Rondo in his first summer league games. We got another player here.

2. Why is James Young not playing Thorntons role on the Celtics right now.

1. Because Smart needs to improve his three point shooting in game situations.

2. Because Young missed most of training camp.

Young reminds me of Alex English.

Never put Lance Stephenson and Tony Allen in the same sentence - it's an insult to Stephenson, lol.  I actually think that Lance is a pretty good shooter, from mid-range haha, and he can also create his own shot.  Tony Allen can't even dribble.  Ugh.  You're trying to say that Smart is a mix of the best, and worst, parts of those two guys, right?
