  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Yes, surprisingly they own the pick.
Let's say the Knicks call and make an offer for Rondo...If we asked for their 2015 pick (the next draft) that appears that it will be a top 5-6 pick, would they pull the trigger for his bird rights?

Or if Rondo decided he wanted to go to NYC,  but only for a max deal- would the Knicks be desperate enough to give that lottery pick up to us?
I mean they need someone now, and the free agent market for big name, melo - compatible guards will be thin this offseason.

I'm in favor of keeping Rondo but if he walks to NYC would Phil and Dolan pull the trigger?

If the Knicks are willing to offer more than us, ie they'll give him a max deal, and Ainge won't give him a max deal (which I'm not completely convinced he will), then the Knicks need his Bird rights to give him that money.
The asset they have is their own pick this year, Larkin and Giannis' younger brother.
The triangle is a query, but this question assumes that;
-the Knicks and Melo want him.
-Rondo wants max money and the Knicks want to give him max money.
-Danny won't give him max money (he's not worth max as a player to me, but they may give it to him because of his marketing/star power.) Ie Danny offers 15 million x 5 years and the Knicks will offer the max of...

2015-16: $18.68 million

2016-17: $20.081 million

2017-18: $21.48 million

2018-19: $22.88 million

2019-20: $24.28 million
Thoughts?

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I don't think the knicks dumb enough to give up the their pick when they can sign Rondo as a free agent. Phil is smarter than that. Plus Rondo is not a fit for the triangle. He can't shoot and ruin spacing. He likes the ball ro be in his hands. Triangle is all about moving the ball and take the shot that the opposing team gives you.

If not Phil Jackson running the team, the old knicks could be bailed into it.

You can't trade consecutive first round picks.
How can the notion be lost so freqvently, when it is discussed so often?

They'd have to pick for us and we sign and trade Rondo after the pick was made for us.

With that said,as many have said, rondo and the triangle is a non- starter.

Olynyk or Sully, Bradley or Thornton all would work with the triangle, even Green.

Melo for any combination of those guys and picks works for me.

Good idea. Either way works for me, but I'd rather give them KO and he fits better in the triangle anyway.

This is an interesting idea, if it were possible.  If the knicks could buy you a 20% shot at Okafor, it's probably worth a gamble.  If they knew they had the #1, they wouldn't do the deal though.

As for Rondo in the triangle, I don't remember Ron Harper being such a deadly shooter.  The knicks have too many holes to worry about whether an All-Star point guard fits their system.

I don't know how it can be forgotten, but it always is here (or people don't look to see if the Knicks have their 2016 pick).  To get the Knicks 2015 pick, they'd have to get a 1st round back (so the lesser of our own pick and the Clippers pick is how it would be structured.)

That's not nearly enough.  Maybe if we sent out Wallace and took back Stoudamire it could be interesting.  Especially because we could have two lottery picks and enough cap room to sign two max free agents -- we could get Gasol and bring back Rondo!
