I have been using my black magic on the clips. Unfortunately the dark world got the wrong LA basketball team, which explains the season ending injury to the Lakers pf instead of Blake.
I'm thinking of going the way of the voodoo doll.

On a related note, the Nets are also currently in the Lottery. They would have the 12th pick if the season ended today and my math is correct.

Yeah.  The Clippers are going to be fine.  They will probably be a top West Coast team.   The Nets had an awful start last season and made the playoffs.  WE don't have their pick this year, but Hopefully they are terrible next year (and the two years after) when we own it.

Had to hop in on a little CBS bashing sidenote.  They had this nugget on my roto league's "news" section:

Quote
Celtics forward Jeff Green leads team to victory Monday
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(November 18, 2014 10:37 AM EST) Celtics forward Jeff Green contributed in a variety of ways during Monday's win against the Suns. Green scored 28 points to go along with two rebounds, one assist, three steals and two rebounds.
Through nine games, Green is averaging 19.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists. The Celtics next play Wednesday at Philadelphia.

see any erroneous "details" with that bit of reporting?
Yup

Someone wasn't paying attention to the scoreboard and someone was too in awe of Green's multi-dimensional contributions.,

I am usually very pessimistic about stuff like this happening, but I really wouldn't be surprised if the Clips fall out of the playoffs.  OKC, Sacremento and Pheonix could all absolutely knock them out, although conversely I wouldn't be surprised if New Orleans dropped out of the playoffs.  That conference is so competitive that anything can happen and with their weak start, they are going to have to be that much better for the rest of the year.  They could still finish with the 3rd seed, but them finishing 9th in the west isn't totally crazy.  If we somehow got a top 3 pick and CBS for Rivers.....

No team's played more than 12 games thus far.  That's 14.6% of the season, or the rough equivalent of two NFL games out of the 16-game season.

Suffice it to say, their early start means ultimately nothing.

From cbssports.com....

"What does 0-2 mean? Since 1990 only 23 of the 198 teams that started 0-2 made the playoffs, giving a 12 percent chance of recovering from that poor of a start. On the other hand, a 2-0 start raises the possibility of making the playoffs to 63 percent."

Mike
NFL playoffs is a harder barrier to crack than the NBA Playoffs. Only 37.5% of the league makes it compared to 53% in the NBA. Changes things but I actually agree with you about 12 games being meaningful.

I'm not a huge fan of their site and methods but the boxscore geeks have a confidence interval post that's relevant to this discussion:

http://www.boxscoregeeks.com/articles/confidence-intervals-and-you

We're approaching the point where the sample size is meaningful, though in specific cases injuries loom large. The Thunder and Clippers are two of those, Blake is playing at a career worst level so far 9 games into the season.

The only thing about the Clips is that veteran team with championship aspirations usually comes out strong and then gets bored with the last third of the season.  Maybe Doc'll have them pull a reverse Celtics and sleepwalk to the all-star break, then go on a 26-2 run after that.

The Clips will be a top seed in the West.  The devil on my shoulder hopes Griffin will do time for slapping a grown man who was getting in his face, but my other shoulder disapproves.  The Clips are a top seed in the West regardless of their current record.

Remind me again, is the pick unprotected?  I don't remember it being a top-15 protected pick or anything like that, but it would be great if it was just a standard draft choice that could end up anywhere ;D.  Regardless, they'll be fine, and we aren't going to wind up with 2 lottery selections this year, unfortunately.  Sigh.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

If the season ended today, Anthony Davis would easily be the NBA MVP. While I realize there is a long way to go, I see the Pelicans being able to maintain their pace as they have the offensive and defensive firepower to compete. OKC should easily be able to bounce back, but hopefully they don't fall too far behind. Phoenix proved last year that they are for real - if they remain healthy, there is no reason for them not to be able to keep it up (as last year's team was young to begin with). Sacramento is the team that I expect to fall off, but who knows?

It's not that the Clippers are that bad, it's that the west is that good. There are going to be some very above average teams that miss the playoffs, let's hope the Clips are one of them.

4 chicks at the same time ?!?

Peter Gibbons: What would you do if you had a million dollars?
Lawrence: I'll tell you what I'd do, man: two chicks at the same time, man.
Peter Gibbons: That's it? If you had a million dollars, you'd do two chicks at the same time?
Lawrence: [dang] straight. I always wanted to do that, man. And I think if I were a millionaire I could hook that up, too; 'cause chicks dig dudes with money.
Peter Gibbons: Well, not all chicks.
Lawrence: Well, the type of chicks that'd double up on a dude like me do.
Peter Gibbons: Good point.

Brilliant comedy. ;D
