It's too early to talk draft but some positive observations

Not really a draft observation but though Tommy's comment in last nights post game was funny/slightly interesting.

In talking about the draft and rebuild Tommy said something along the line of " Danny is looking all over the world for players, its different he is looking is China (Mudiay) and Lithunaia"

Not much to see here but it at least show that at some point DA was prob telling Tommy about Mudiay and the top ten euros.

How about WCS and one of Dakari/Kaminsky/Upshaw?  I'm feeling hungry for centers these days.

No chance, IMO. Ainge and Stevens may draft one center and one scorer. I don't know the order of the picks, it depends of our position. If they can't pick Okafor, Towns (both very unlikely) and WCS (much possible), I see them drafting someone like Hezonja or Winslow and using the second pick to grab Dakari or Kaminsky.

I also think your scenario is very possible.  SF would be a nice place to staff with a stud young prospect.

No interest in Myles Turner if they can't reach the top tier?

Maybe, but I still think he's way too thin, and too much a PF-style.

He's only 18 and already 242 pounds.

He is skinny but he has broad shoulders so I expect him to be able to put on the weight he needs to function. I don't think he'll ever be a low post banger on offense but he can shoot it and block shots.

I dont think size will be Turners problem as a pro he is 6'10 (with out shoes) and 243lb at 18. He also has a 7'4 wingspan giving him great length. As he matures he will easily be a 255lb NBA center. My main concern is his ability to run the court and the health issues that may arries from his strange gate. Watch him play and you will see what I mean the kid just runs weird and has already had knee issues. This is a major red flag for me. I think skill and frame wise he is an excellent prospect but health concerns put him out of my top 10.

I didn't know about the knee issues. Given his size and, as you say, his gait, that is a concern. Looks like Danny's steering the C's pick higher up the board now anyway.

Just a quick note as most of you had to notice Duke got beat yesterday by an inspired NC State. Okafor still had a great game in the loss 23pt 12rb 3blk 3stl. Winslow and Jones both struggles shooting the ball.

The point of interest from this game for me was NC State Soph big Beejay Anya. He had a career game with 14pt 6rb 4blk in 19 min. On the season he is only averaging 5pts 4 rb in 20min. Whats crazy about Anya is that at 6'9 300lbs he is averaging 3blks a game. This is because he is reported to have a freakish 7'9" wingspan. Similare though 3" long then Biyombo of the bobcats this basicly allowed a 6'9 guy to play like he is 7'1 while retaining the mobility of a smaller player. Anye is still very raw and by know means a draft prospect for this year. He is a kid who as a senoir I could see putting up really good numbers in the ACC and working his way into a late 1st rd pick as a defensive specialist in the Perk mold.

The one guy who keeps really standing out to me is D Russell of Ohio ST. Last night they put a beating on on Michigan and Russell was clearly the best player on the court. I really think he is going to excel as a 1/2 in the NBA. If we miss out of a big man the idea of Smart and Russell as the back court of the future is starting to grow on me.

Other notes,

Le'Bryan Nash of OKC st, so skilled just seems to lack the motor. With more energy he is a 1st rd pick.

Oubre, was getting to the hoop and drawing fouls at will.

Justin Anderson, another solid game 15pts 3-6 from 3.

Most interesting point to me is his take on Kevon Looney

To paraphrase what he said, most scouts who go to UCLA practice come away feeling that Looney has much more SF skills then Alford is showing in their game plan/system. If this is really true then this kid is the 4th pick in the draft. He will be a gamble but unlike so many failed 3/4s in the past he has elite length and a great motor.

It is weird. in open space he looks slow, but in the paint he actually move kind of fast.

Keep an eye on Christian Wood. Young sophomore with loads of potential. Good size 6'11 with a 7'2 wingspan. Good mid range shooter, can put the ball on the floor, athletic. Just really skinny (looks like Ant Davis in college). If he put on weight he'll be a hell of an NBA player

I didn't get a chance to post or watch much bball but there where some good game over the weekend. To highlight a few


Oregon vs Washington (watched first half)

Upshaw is playing well since becoming a starter. This game he played 30min and had 13pt 12rb 5blk. He had an impressive 7 offensive rebounds but was a scary 1-6 FT. As I have said before he is huge my estimate is he has to be 7' in shoes 270+lb with at least a 7'4 wingspan and for his size he does a good job getting up the court. He is limited on O and doesnt have great quickness but really does look like a solid rotational NBA big. He is in the Collins brother / B Haywood mold.

Michigan St vs Maryland (first half)

Jake Layman had 24pt 12rbs, he is a 6'9 SF from Mass who is starting to get more talk as a late first early second. Branden Dawson is a kid who will likely be drafted in the late second round. As a 6'6 230lb forward he has yet to develop an outside shot and struggles at the FT line. The interesting thing to me will be if Draymond Green's rise will help Dawson. They are similar size and play a similar role at Mich St. Green was more skilled as a college player but Dawson is the superior athlete. 

Arizona vs Utah

I didn't get to watch this was (i don't get PAC 12 channel). The one big thing I took away from the box score and write up is S Johnson's ability to turn it on. It was a close 31-26 game at the half and Johnson was held scoreless. In the second half he had 18pts 9rb and Arizona won 69-51.
