Going to the game tonight. I have a 2 1/2 - 3 hr drive from western mass. The last few times ive gone I have had free parking in the garage not the case tonight. Where my best bet for parking where I wont get stuck waiting to get out. Need to be at work for 6;30 tomorrow so wasting an hr stuck in parking will suck.

Thanks

My best guess is that you'll be stuck either way if you're heading west (need to cross the entire city on your way back).

I'm not a big expert on parking around Causeway St, though. My best guess would be Government Center parking garage

Government Center Garage is a good option. Event parking is very reasonable ($20 - $25) and is just down the road from the Garden (5 Minute Walk down Merrimac St). It is right off of 93 as well (Exit 23 - Gov't Center). I can provide more specifics/details if you like, but that is my recommendation for you.

Coming from Western Mass..
90E Through two tolls > Bear Left on Exit 24B for 93N > Stay in Right Lane after merging onto 93N > Take Exit 23 Gov't Center > Stay Left Lane on Exit Ramp > Follow signs for Faneuil Hall > Straight onto North St. and go through a few sets of lights (Faneuil will be on your left) > Turn Right onto Congress St. and go through a few sets of lights (Stay in Left Lane) > Turn left onto New Chardon St. and take immediate Left into Garage (there will be a guy waving people in)

When going to the game...
Take elevator to Floor 1 > Walk out and turn left > Walk down Merrimac St > Turn Right onto Causeway St. > Can't miss the Garden > Have fun at the game

When exiting...
Take the New Chardon St. Exit > Turn Right out of Garage and go straight through lights (staying on New Chardon St.) following signs for 93S (Middle lane) > Turn Right onto 93S > After merging on 93S, get in middle lane (3rd out of 5) for 90W > After taking exit towards 90W, get into right lane for 90W (Left lane takes you back to 93S) > Enjoy the ride home.

***Edit: I live right next to the Garden and use this Garage personally for Overnight Parking. I am happy to help with any questions.

If money is an issue...
I usually park at LAZ Parking - Center Plaza Garage
75 Somerset St  (between Cambridge St and Beacon St)

Its a smaller garage so I have never had any issue getting out quickly.  It's a little further away than the Govt Center garage but it's only $13.  Personally, with the crappy weather, I would park underneath the Garden.  I can't say that I've had to wait more than 15-20 minutes to get out of there but I usually bypass the parking guides and park near the exit ramp on the highest floor possible.

Good luck.
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

Personally, I have always found parking around the Garden to be a rip-off.  And the traffic stinks too.

But I'm lucky that where I live in NH there is an Amtrak Downeaster station within 5 minutes walking distance from my apartment.

Maybe you could park at one of the commuter rail stations outside of town and ride that into/out of town?  Never tried that going west, so I have no idea if it is feasible or not.

This is how I do it.  used to come from RI now in SE Mass.  Park at a commuter rail lot (since it's late, no need to pay for parking since all payments already collected and they don't know you're not the one that paid for that spot), catch the train into Back Bay, take the orange line right to North Station.  piece of cake.
only caveat is making sure you're on the line back to the commuter rail station to catch the 10:35 train because missing that and waiting for the 12:05 (last) train sucks.  had that happen a couple of times.

I'm sure it'll be a similar story for anyone coming from somewhere else that can get a train into Boston.
