also young if he had stayed at kentucky-it seems ainge is picking up some valuable pieces for the  draft position the celts are in-after watching powells video high lites of yesterdays game,he showed skill and intelligence but in high lites missed explosiveness and aggression---looks like he wil fit this  brad stevens offense along with young young--is powell a poor mans aron gordon-

if his draft draft class was so loaded, why in a weaker year would he go undrafted-he tore up the d league for 17 rebounds and matched youngs scoring yesterday--i think he has the same vertical as marcus--obviously i would like to see him  turn into something other than a mirage-

if this latest draft class was so loaded, why in a weaker year would he go undrafted-he tore up the d league for 17 rebounds and matched youngs scoring yesterday--i think he has the same vertical as marcus--obviously i would like to see him  turn into something other than a mirage-
3 reasons.
1. it's 1 game.  let's see how he does in a number of games
2. a number of players have done well in D-league and not been drafted nor been NBA success stories
3. D-league doesn't really change how a player would have been evaluated pre-draft.  1 D-league game does not make him a 1st round pick in hindsight

Is this draft class loaded though?

sorry tried to modify but i meant his draft class loaded and the next is not as deep--obviously it was a first game and d league but he matched youngs scoring and had 17 boards--would love to hear from someone watching celtics practises and scimmages on his abilities

didn't Fab Melo record a triple double with 11 blocks at one point  ::)

I think that if he'd come out in 2013 he probably would have been in the mid 2nd round. The crop of 4s was pretty thin there. He'd have had a great chance of going ahead of the likes of Colton Iverson and Romero Osby.

even if he didn't, it enforces the point that looking good in D-league doesn't necessarily make a player look like a better draft prospect in retrospect

I could understand this question being asked if Powell averaged those numbers for the D-league season but it's only 1 game so far.

I'm getting tired of this knee-jerk notion that the d-league is completely meaningless now because of Fab Melo. Dwight Powell took a great first step, and the path available to him happens to be the one partially trodden by Fab.

I think with the internet and talk radio fans tend to jump on and off the wagon, and on and off players way to fast.

With that said Powell was the 45th pick and where he would be in most drafts. He has both pros and cons as a prospect. The fact is that he projects as a bench role player with limited ceiling. This is due to age (23) and a solid at everything master at nothing skill set. This doesn't change with his draft class. This is not to say that I'm not really high on him as a celtic. I have said it before I really like the prospect of him as a long, athletic high IQ 4/3 off the bench for years to come. Think Scal with hops but not the shooting range.

He did well in the D League, better than Melo ever did.   There is a chance an NBA player is inside him.

D league is too easy for powell. Has a good looking handle for his size. I can see the potential
