So Kevin Love is the 2nd big time free agent to be rumored to be heading to the Lakers.  Didn't see that one coming.  Bravo.

TP bet time:

Name the third big time free agent that will be rumored to be going to the Lakers this offseason.

Whoever is the first to guess the name (once the rumor comes out to check) I will give them 20 TPs.

Rudy Gay.

I doubt Rudy Gay, SacTown is doing well so far

Maybe Marc Gasol?

JLin/Kobe/Young/Love/Gasol

Sure, I believe that the guy who said all he wants to do is win will leave a team with LeBron James to go join an aging Kobe Bryant in Los Angeles.

Of course he will, LeBron isn't committed any longer than this year either.

If he leaves Cleveland again sans championship, the bridge won't just be burned, it would be flat out nuked, IMO.

Right, but he will still "opt out" everyone is going to opt out that can, the value of a max contract is going up this summer.

That's all this "source" a/k/a Love's agent, is floating this for, to hold the Cav's feet to the fire.
The cap isn't set to go up next year unless the union allows for cap "smoothing" for the new TV deal.

Currently it will go up July of 2016 for the 2016-2017 season.

If he wants to max out he'll either play out his contract or opt out and sign a 2 year deal with a player option like LeBron did.

He's played about 2000 minutes now of big boy basketball somehow. So yeah he might actually be..... (I'm still skeptical of course)

Well, "big-time" is pretty vague but he's played at an all-star level since being traded to Sacto. I could see him getting the max.

I'm just going to go ahead and call some bull**** on this one. No way in hell that Love would choose that poo poo platter of a team, even if it is his hometown. That is, unless, they somehow get lucky and land a Gasol or something this summer.

I seriously hope they won't have a "Big Three" of Kobe, Love, and Rondo next season.

I could see that being the plan. Thats what scares me with Rondo. The knicks and Lakers will likely have off-season plans that feature Rondo. If Kobe holds up all season as a 25+ pt guy and Love leaves for LA that's enticing for Rondo. Add to that a decent starting center in Hill and thats at least enough to make things intersting.

Kobe simply takes up too much of the cap for them to get two max or near-max players next year.  They'd have to make a sign-and-trade sending back a lot of salary to someone, and they just don't have the picks to make taking in a lot of salary while losing a franchise player palatable.  They cans get one, but not two.

Well a lot of people probably said this...

I'm just going to go ahead and call some bull**** on this one. No way in hell that James would choose that poo poo platter of a team, even if it is his hometown.

Much, much, much different narrative with Lebron and Cleveland than Love and LA. Lebron is (supposedly) a story of redemption and forgiveness, not so much with Love. Furthermore, Cleveland had much, much more talent and assets to offer than LA. The analogy is a poor one at best.

Rondo is not going to LA. Kobe has said he'll retire after next year, and we have TONS of assets and good potential to work with. Our team's future is exponentially brighter than L.A.'s.  Furthermore, Rondo is a loyalty guy, and places like LA, Miami, and Cleveland, where we've had big rivalries, would probably not appeal to his loyal side.
