The celtics have a huge decision to make in reference to Rondo. He is such a polarizing figure, even on this site!
Some see him as a special talent, and the PG to build around, others don't like his game or him.
I like some parts of his game.
great passer, his ball handling are a plus, he's a good rebounder, good speed and quickness, he runs the team well...or does he?
His domination of the ball at certain times, when there not pushing the pace, grinds the offense to a halt. "ball pounding" All this from a PG that most agree, can't shoot, (but yes, scores a little). He certainly gets assists, but when he gets assists does it come at the expense of team assists? He gets 16, the team gets 6. (We have forwards that can really pass on this team)
He is far below average at the free throw line, not good, from a man with the ball in his hands so often, and at critical times too.
He can defend, or can he...sometimes he just plays free safety, looking for steals, is this a bad thing?
What I'm getting at is, he has some really positive skills, and some really weak traits, sometimes when the ball is in his hands, the team gets predictable. He's easy to prepare for when the game gets down to crunch time. (If you need the ball back with 20 seconds on the clock...play tough D on him, foul Rondo.)
All this said...I want to be a Rondo supporter and believe he is this teams leader and star. I really do. Is he a top 5 PG really? Should they keep promoting him as this special talent, old school PG, and then trade him at the dead line? When I see real pace and ball movement, like in Chicago saturday night, sometimes I quietly wonder.
