I didn't think we could've got a better deal for our vets than we got with Brooklyn, but after seeing the huge hole in the middle in the last few games, I wonder if the Clippers trade would've ended up being better. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the proposed Clippers trade, before it got nixed, was Jordan and two future firsts for Garnett and the ability for Doc to leave his contract. 1 of the picks was for Garnett, and the other pick was for letting Doc out of his contract I believe. I think there was also going to be a Pierce trade somehow, but I'll leave that off for now. This was before Jordan broke out last year and Garnett slumped, so it seemed rather fair at the time.
Comparing the two trades, which one would your rather have now?
Brooklyn: Pierce, Garnett, Terry, and White (and some 2nd rounders)
Boston: Wallace, Humphries, Brooks, Bogans, Joseph, Young (2014 pick), 2016/18 1sts, rights to swap in 2017, TPE
LA: Garnett, (and Doc)
Boston: Jordan, 2 future 1sts, + whatever we would've got for Pierce, too
I guess it depends how bad Brooklyn bottoms out, because those could be some very good picks for us. However, in hindsight we could be saying the same thing about LA now. At the time, it looked like a fair trade. But do you really think Garnett would've anchored their defense? They still would've made the playoffs, but they would've been lower this year. Depending on when the 2nd pick was, it might also have had a chance to make it to the lottery if it was a couple years down the road. Also, don't forget to factor in the fact that Jordan broke out last year, and we wouldn't have our hole in the middle that we do now.
So what do you guys think? Hindsight being 20/20, which trade would you rather have now?
