How mediocre of a team can Rondo turn into a contender?

Rondo looks great so far. I'm conflicted about trading him, but if the offer is great enough, I feel as if Danny will have to take it.

It will be interesting to see which teams come calling. Will it only be top ten teams (Houston, Dallas, etc.) or will some fringe playoff teams jump into the mix (Sacramento, Charlotte, Atlanta, Phoenix, Denver, etc.)?

What's the worst a team could be that would become a contender with Rondo? Obviously Houston and Dallas are already fringe contenders even without Rondo, but could Atlanta make some noise by adding Rondo to their core? How about Sacramento?

I'm not saying this isn't thread worthy, but the Rondo-suitor topic has been nearly beaten to death. If you believe reports, Rondo informed Sacramento he wouldn't resign there, so they of course dropped out. Now if they can sustain their hot start, maybe that changes (for Rondo's camp). I don't see Phoenix being a player as they have about 11 decent point guards. Houston is unlikely because Harden is so ball dominant that they're probably better off going with simply a decent shooter at the point.

I guess Dallas there's a chance but with what they have to offer, I'd rather just hold onto Rondo and see what happens this summer.

The problem with rondo is that he is not good enough to be as ball dominant as he is.  In other words, any team trading for rondo has to understand that he will control the ball and the offense and that others will need to adjust to his style.  And I don't believe rondo is good enough unless he has just the right cast around him.

I created the thread to gauge whether or not Rondo's return (and subsequent great play proving he's the player that he once was) opened the door for more suitors. Does Denver all of a sudden become interested in Rondo, believing a Rondo-Afflalo-Gallo-Faried core with a deep supporting cast can bring them to the Finals? Does Sacramento, looking better than ever as you said, appeal more to Rondo today than it did a few months ago? As for Phoenix, I would expect we'd net either IT or Bledsoe in any Rondo deal, so I don't think their glut of PGs would discourage any interest they have in Rondo.

Rondo would never re-sign there and thus if he's not going to make them a contender this season, there's no reason for them to make a push for him. It's a shame he wouldn't re-sign there, though. edit: Still unfeasible because MIL would never offer this for an impending FA, but the above hypothetical offer that I only posted to see how exciting Milwaukee could be if they added Rondo and another lotto pick becomes slightly more palatable for Boston if Milwaukee throws in an additional first, like a 2018 1st or something. Still, it would be hard to imagine Danny accepting a deal from Milwaukee that doesn't include their 2015 1st.

Yes. I meant to say I'd actually throw in good picks. I'd trade all the '15 picks with Rondo for Irving. Yeah, they can have their '16 pick back and the other Philly 2nd rounder. I'm going to guess this never happens.
