There is not a lot of love for Phil on this forum.  But, I agree with you, Pressey might run the club better than Turner.  Maybe Stevens could try him out for short spurt during some of these games and watch how the team reacts.

This forum is wrong.
Pressey is a good backup point guard.

'...if you're in the YMCA league' is how that sentence should be finished. Pressey's a solid third stringer, but not someone you should want on the floor.

Last year the Celtics were a +4.8 with Pressey on the floor.

Which means exactly nothing. I'll assume you didn't go with your favorite stat -- PER -- because Pressy posted a well-below-average 8.8 last year?

I really like Phil Pressey. I like that he's a Celtic, and I like his game. He is in no way an acceptable backup point guard at this point in his NBA career.

How did he look tonight as a backup pg?  Give him a chance. He was only a rookie last season. His jump shot looks like it has improved and he always plays tough in your face defense.

He had a good game tonight. He's our best backup pointguard... but that's because his major competition is Evan Turner, who is moonlighting as one of our four or five best players on a team that's going to be overachieving if we win 30 games.

No one's bashing Pressey, we're just not trying to make him into something more than he is. Dude is decidedly on the Clark Kent end of the Superhero-Normal person spectrum.

As far as his defense goes, I'm going to be honest and say that I've read enough of your posts that I can safely and comfortably distrust you on principle at this point when it comes to that side of the ball.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

and are you a basketball expert?. I can care less if you trust or distrust what i say. I don't need your approval

Well Mr Basketball, your the one who plain out stated Pressey has no business being a backup in the NBA.   Well i guess you were wrong tonight weren't you?

Also you seem to forget Pressey was a key reason we won some games in the tail end of last season. Vs scrubs or not.  He deserves credit and an opportunity

I actually think DOS is kind of an expert.  I don't always agree with him, but he always has a logical point.

Well there is a well rounded, mature, thoughtful response.   take that DOS!
smh

Good response.  :) by the way, DOS is a very good poster And I learn a lot from him.

As for pressed, I like the kid and his passing. I think his ceiling is backup on a poor team, or third string pg on a good team. Right now he is marginal nba player, BUT if he develops a three point shot he sticks in the league for sure.

I hope he makes it. He is smart and talented, unfortunately a bit on the dwarfish side.  ;)

Pound-for-pound who is a better pure point guard in the NBA? Probably no one.

I tried to tell you guys.

+1 .  Most of the guys that bash Pressey are the pro Rondo guys.

Good for BS leaving Pressey in for most the 4th.

Pressey is a good backup for Rondo.

He didn't suddenly become a backup in the NBA.  He's still 3rd string....  What does Smart getting injured have to do with how good of a player Pressey is?

So what if he can fill in at PG some nights?  That's the definition of a 3rd string PG.  If he was a 2nd string PG then he'd be able to fill in at PG most nights.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

You mean common sense/logic/reasoning is your only criteria for being an expert?  Where have all the standards gone?

(Obviously no diss to DOS, just saying that logic should be expected from all posters).

Logic from all posters?  haha good one! :)

I was just trying to be reasonable.  DOS's logic isn't the only reason he is an expert, to me at least.
