Ainge took a shot on Turner the same way he took a shot on Fab Melo, Gerald Green, Marcus Banks, Al Jefferson, etc. etc. Small risk / high reward stuff. So mostly all those experiments flamed out, but one didn't and was crucial to configuring a championship team.

But Evan Turner does suck.

He needs more freedom offensively.
I'll jump to a conclusion here and say he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, and he's got way too much going on in his head trying to remember all these new plays- you can see it in his body language that he has no confidence.

In Philly they let him roam the key and create, and he doesn't have that freedom here.
Ainge was probably thinking that if you could get his efficiency up in a controlled system- ala Lance Stephenson in Indiana- that you could boost his value and make him a nice bench piece for a playoff team with a spare late first rounder.

I made a topic about how painful this guy is and he is a literal basketball roller coaster.
He's just missing a few spark plugs from being a very, very good player.
I honestly think he's just a little dumb.

I sensed the same actually during interviews.  think you pretty much nailed it .     Shame with his athletic abilities .

Sometimes bargains are too hard to pass up ,  I can see how Danny was intrigued

I don't think for freedom is going to lead to better results, he wasn't good in Philly either after all. He might play better with start minutes, but his level of play is still below Bradleys/Rondos so why should they give him starter minutes?

Have to think of it as he was super cheap.  Maybe he is going to realize by his pt that he needs to play within himself AND the team game.  When he is on he's definitely an asset.  When he turns the ball over coupled with his less than stellar defense he goes way down on a very deep wing roster.

I feel like Turner is one of those guys who isn't very good with big minutes, but then gets even worse as his playing time drops.  He's been pretty awful so far.

I love how he not only ran out of gas on the freeway but he also can't figure out how to pour the gas from the gas can into his own tank.
