Dirk vs Rondo?

I still wonder sometimes what would of been like if the Celtics drafted Dirk as rumored to be planned in the 98 draft.

This is a fairly ridiculous thing to ask.

Yeah, what the heck?  They're tied in championships and Finals appearances I guess.

Who would I rather have running point? Or who would I rather have on my team regardless of position?

I don't know why you would ask this unless you wanted to start another boring rondo debate.

Dirk is an all-time great.  12 all star games, 16 seasons.  1st ballot hall of fame.  Rondo's career is only at the 1/2 way point of Dirk's.  What is there really to compare?  Maybe you meant to type Paul Pierce?

Dirk has a MVP season on his resume and was in contention for others. I don't think Rondo has reached that level yet.

Rondo is significantly younger, so the choice seems obvious.

Prime Dirk? I'll take Dirk.

Today? Give me Rondo.

If the Mavs GM today said, we will offer Dirk for Rondo, i would say yes in a heartbeat

Sigh.. Sometimes I don't get how some users can hate a player or have an hidden agenda out for them.

I know some might feel this is another "hate" Rondo thread. Well thats not the point.

The point is, even Dirk who is 8 years older is still considered to be a better player than Rondo.

Rondo has ways to go.  I don't think Rondo can't get much better (realistic expectations) and should not be asking for the  max.  Even Tony Parker who is considered to be better than Rondo (4 years older) has taken a paycut year after year so he can help the Spurs sign other players (making his life easier and having a chance to  compete for championships year after year).

And then Wyc and Co would show you (and Danny) the door.

When your 4 years older, lacking in defense, and while TP is a huge reason for their success. It wouldn't have been possible without Pops, and especially Duncan and Ginobli.

You can't contend with Dirk unless you build a certain structure around him, same applies to Rondo.

It is. Even if everyone disregards the fact that you're a documented Rondo hater, this is a loaded thread. How exactly are they comparable in any quantifiable way? They don't play the same position and they haven't had the same career length.
