I'm intrigued by Powell and would like to somehow see him stick as a 15th man, but if I have to choose between him and Vitor, I'm going with Vitor (providing there's no long term damage to his knee).  I'm not sure how his season unraveled on him, but I'm not forgetting the very impressive start he had to last season when the team was its most competitive.  He's still young, and a legit center, and something of a rim protector.  I don't know if he was a casualty of our 'development' year or what, but remember, he did this in an actual NBA game:

Powell truly impressed me, sign him up, send him to the d-league for a year of two. Faverani is dead meat, injury prone, and no real skillset to be a starter in this league.

Powell for me.
I don't mind Vitor but we are pretty deep with bigs and potential-wise Powell has a lot more going for him.

I wouldn't be surprised to be Powell cut and then make it through waivers back to us.

Do folks really believe that Powell will not get through waivers?

I think there is a decent chance he won't get through waivers if there are teams out there looking for a cheap big man to fill out there bench.  How many teams fit that description?

Guess you never saw him play.

He is far from the best but to say he has no skillset, when he can score in the low post, good hook shots, can shoot from 3, block shots, play defence, run, rebound and take charges.

He is not consistent, but he has skill. I would keep him if he can come back. Granted I work nights and miss the game the otherday and never saw powell.

I would want Dwight, because he is more athletic.   You can't teach it and it is hard to develop.  Skills can be developed and toughness can to some degree.  Powell is more versatile.   Put Vitor on IR or the NBA equivalent and keep Dwight, that way you keep both options open.

Thanks for the reminder that Faverani had some real nice games when he was healthy. Outside of ill-advised shots that I guess all the bigs were being encouraged to take, Faverani played like a veteran. I remember being impressed by that, and the contrast with Zeller's first few appearances is stark.

Does a game against the Bucks really count as an actual NBA game?

Here's the latest on Fav:

Boston Celtics ‏@celtics  13m13 minutes ago
Vitor Faverani had surgery today in Spain to clean up inflammation & to evaluate L meniscus, according to ahead Stevens; 6-8 week recovery.

Interesting that just two days ago the team said he'd have that work done back here if the second opinion was that it was needed.

Or, El Hombre Irreparable.

I think his 2nd year (the current year) is non guaranteed so he'll be praying they keep him.
Faverani can take a year off and them come to Boston as a back up big man in a few years when we're contenders again.

At this point the most value he brings is his $2 million salary in potential trades. Powell's $500k is slightly annoying in that regard because it's harder to stick into trades, but they'd probably look at his on court potential over anything else given his size and athleticism.
