http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/235164/Celtics-Could-Waive-Vitor-Faverani-As-Part-Of-Roster-Crunch

With the roster's lack of depth at the 5 spot, it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that Vitor Faverani was a lock to remain with this team for the 14-15 season.

But while his inconsistent 14 campaign, his recent DUI, and his uncertain health status probably still wouldn't be enough to outright waive him, Boston's desire to retain it's recent acquisition of Dwight Powell may just be enough of a reason to part ways with El Hombre.

So which is it? For the final roster spot do we run with one our largest and most physically imposing players or do we look toward the high character and versatility of our newest  rookie?

I am so happy the regular season is almost here. The celtics could cut both of them it it wouldn't matter a diddly for the upcoming season.

The only good thing about Faverani is that he makes Zeller look like a good choice.
Since we are re-building anyway, I prefer keeping Powell, there are more chances he will develop into a useful player in the future. But to be honest, I think the best player to cut is Joel Anthony.

I'd honestly want to watch Powell play in some more preseason before deciding. It's possible

Vitor's knee may make this a moot argument.

Interesting, never even considered that as option. I actually like Joel, last night I thought he did an alright job of matching up with Quincy Acey's all out hustle. He could be a valuable chip to move at the trade deadline if a contender need's a veteran defender on a short contract.

Wanted Vitor, but his health is a huge concern... at the moment don't care much for Powell, but he's a rookie and I don't mind wasting a roster spot on him instead.

I feel Vitor's contract is more useful though.

 Dwight Powell.

Favernani has some potential but he's soft. If we're going on a soft big's potential for the future, I'm taking Powell.

Vitor was very active and impacted a lot of shots. From what I heard he did not play within the system and was often out position. Powell is active as well and seems to be getting the hang of the system already. Question is if he can score.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I'd take Dwight Powell. I'd take the younger (even though it's just 3 years apart) player with upside.

2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

Do folks really believe that Powell will not get through waivers? Because that would have to be the bet for Ainge to waive Faverani and his contract which includes a non-guaranteed 2.2 million for 2015/2016, while keeping Powell on the roster for almost a third of the trade value financially.

Even if Danny prefers to keep Powell over Fav, on the basis of basketball value alone (and I am not convinced of this), if he can get Powell through waivers he should be able to sign him to a Red Claws contract, allowing a call up later in the year.

You can if your name is Danny Ainge, which I am quite grateful it is not....
