I don't get why some people depict Bradley as a 'chucker'. He's a great catch-and-shoot shooter and almost reached the .400 mark from the 3 point lane on a high volume last season. Bradley, Smart, and Rondo are the core of our backcourt, and I couldn't care less about one way players like Thornton and Turner. Sooner or later they will be gone.

Firstly, I don't think people doubt Bradley's a very good shooter. Of the 115 players who attempted at least 200 threes last season, Bradley was 23rd in 3P% overall and 12th among guards. Secondly, the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Anyway, the "chucker" label probably comes from him seemingly taking a lot of one-dribble, long twos. And the fact he continues to do so even when he's bricking all them. What's funny is that everywhere I'm checking, Bradley shoots about league average from the mid-range and on pull-ups. Hmm..

Only 23 still & a lockdown defender. Keep the development going, & keep him shooting 1500 shots per day. He's got a shot to be pretty darn good offensively. Just needs more consistency.

It's obvious that Bradley sees himself as a Kobe Bryant type shooter....and there are times he gets HOT.
The League is pretty awful overall these days---so let's let Avery do his thing.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

Any stats to back that up?

I said this all the way back in Bradley's rookie year(look it up I have the posts to prove it), Bradley has excellent shooting form and is a very good shooter. He just had to get his mind set and make the right decision about when and where to shoot. But the kid's stroke has always been top notch. Its not going to surprise me one bit if he comes out and has a year where he shoots 40%+ from three and over 55% for a TS%.

I think the problem with Bradley isn't that he's shooting too much, but that he's shooting a lot more and passing a lot less.  His percentages are quite good, but the ball movement is missing, and it gets misconstrued as being a bad shooter.

Bingo! but that's another topic for another thread.

as for Bradley, I don't know what the stats say weather or not he's actually a good or bad shooter. but I do know(and this goes for the rest of the team as well) he takes too many early in the shot clock for no reason other than maybe he has no confidence in passing when he's made up his mind and tries to drive and can't get around his defender? I don't think I remember seeing him passing in this situation, it's almost always a pull up jumper in this situation.

if he's not hitting it? that pull up jumper early in the shot clock does more damage to this team than it does to the other team if he's hitting it.

My only problem with Bradley is his shot selection, primarily to begin games... he bricks the first, then you know the next 3-4 possessions he's going to shot it himself and probably brick them as well.

FYI:  there are many good shooters who are chuckers.  There are many good shooters who aren't chuckers and distribute the ball as much as they shoot (Olynyk, KG, etc.).
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Bradley is shooting much better this year. Here are Bradley's stats from last year.....

Bradley's ranking among shooting guards only......

Scoring 19th....he shot a lot for a bad team.
Rebounds 6th....very good.
Steals 15th...the thing he does well.
Assists 53rd....he's a terrible passer.
Turnovers per game 78th.....Yikes!
FG% 35th....he did not shoot well
FT% 43rd....that one surprised me.

You don't need stats when you can watch it with your won eyes. When a teams shooting guard can throw up threes that don't even hit the rim, you know you have a problem.

But if you want stats you just have to, well, look at his stats. In his four years in the league his shooting in his third year was great. Other than that he's shot 34%, 40% and 43% which was good for 35th amongst shooting guards.

I don't know what other back up you'd need.

I agree that he can shoot and if he keeps it up he may even warrant that contract he signed, but why do you need to trash Thornton and Turner to make your point?

Turner does a little bit of everything, and while his D isn't great, I don't buy him not being a two way player like you portray Avery to be.

Thornton is a polished scorer, let's not take that away from him, and I've seen him get a few steals lately.

I like Avery and hope for the best with him, but despite his physical prowess, he appears to be injury prone. Would love to see him finish a full season, but cringe every time he takes a hard foul.

Still don't get your hatred of "one way players" to illustrate
Avery as 2 way.

And you "couldn't care less" so you mean you care more right?  ;D
Truuuuuuuuuth!

So, in your opinion his rookie year and the season in which he missed half a year due to having surgery in both his shoulders should be considered representative of his shooting abilities?

Also, for all intents and purposes Bradley was 14th in the league last year FG% wise going by the stats from ESPN you're using... only you're using the "All Players" instead of Qualified, you know... you're including players that only played 1-5 games or so (not that I necessarily agree about how they go about deciding on the Qualified either)... so not really the best way to go about it, but since it helps you confirm your bias, then all's good right? Though I wouldn't say 14th best either.

Also, those stats also include players who do more work in penetration, dunking, lay-ups... or are we going to suggest that Tony Allen is a great shooter?

So in all, a fairly pointless list you've been looking into as it regards shooting.

I guess we must be glad we don't have the horrible shooter of Klay Thompson either... "31st" on the list, yikes!

That also said, Bradley takes a lot of shots from ranges and spots that are widely considered as some of the most inefficient shots in basketball, that he makes them at a good clip should at least insinuate that he's a more than capable shooter, if not very good.
