Lots of people wanting to trade rondo because he isn't that good.  Yet, they want a good return.  Always annoyed by fans that put down a player and then say trade him.  If you don't want him, why should anyone else give up value for him?

There's no room for rationale thought here!   ;)

Marcus Smart is a better fit for this team going forward than Rondo.  Rondo's pound the ball style doesn't work in Steven's system. ( mostly because of lacking of shooters )  Even Tommy said before the game on Monday, that to play this style Rondo is going to have to break some habits....

Rondo is a very good player, very good player but he doesn't mix well with this cast of characters or the style that Stevens wants to play.  I firmly believe the Rondo will be elsewhere by the deadline at the latest...

I am not bashing Rondo, he is a great player who has been a great player for this franchise but he has run his course here, its time for him to go...

took a look at the title and figured out who created the topic.  some people are just so predictable in their Rondo hatred and love of anything new.

Fafnir despite the shooting woes, what do you think about a Smart/Rondo duo? Bradley comes off as a sixth man off the bench. I think Smart is the type of player that can improve his shooting.
You think Smart can improve his shooting this season? That would be quick.

No, I think in 2-3 years it'll be a lot different.

He has decent form, but just needs to fix the dip/mechanics.

Smart has great work ethic, so I feel like any inconsistencies with his game is something hes committed to fixing.
Then how is that relevant to Rondo and Smart starting with Bradley coming off the bench? Rondo isn't under contract for 2-3 years from now when Smart would supposedly be a better shooter.

Are you talking about the rotation this year or 2-3 years from now?

The sad (or annoying) thing about this thread is that it takes away from just being happy that Smart looks like an as-advertised beast on D and seems to have great confidence, leadership, and energy -- a rookie who seems to belong already.  I am psyched to watch him develop his complete game.  And I think he will.   All of that has almost nothing to do with Rondo who absolutely can co-exist with Smart and who has bonafides as an all-star PG in the league.

The Smart addition is great.  This doesn't need to be followed by, "so let's get rid of Rondo".

Following the theme that begun in this thread, "I'm already tired of Marcus Smart vs. Rondo" threads.

After wasting a few minutes of my life reading this thread.  I have nothing to say that THIS^ doesn't sum up correctly.
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

The whole "either or" thing is incredibly short sighted and stupid. Why not see how the 2 of them actually play together first? And maybe during the regular season? For whatever reason, there seems to be this thought that you can't have 2 good players on the same team. The NBA has been trending towards positionless for some time now - Phoenix has 3 starting caliber PG's for crying out loud. We're not in the situation to turn out talented players because they hurt our feelings at some point.

The way I see it, Smart can slide to the 2 and play off of Rondo. Smart can handle the ball and play next to AB. What's the issue? Stop whining, put your pitchforks away, and just watch.

C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

Nothing its always been like this to a large extent. We've had big threads on Tony Allen/Rondo going back years and years. It happens. We've had some changes for sure, the two that stick out to me is.

1. A larger user base
2. Probably a bigger variety of ages engaged. (basing this solely on my perception which is of course unreliable on the internet)

And has phx made the playoffs yet?

While their offense might be tricker to handle, you really think either dragic or bledsoe can contain a legit sized sg?

Smart and rondo cant be on the court on the same time for long stretches (both are streaky shooters also) bc you want smart guarding the opposing teams pg. You want smart to make things diffiplay/kill secs even before the offense can get set . if smart guards the opposing teams pg then who is rondo going to guard?

Rondo is a mediocre ,lazy man to man defender. His attention is all over the place instead of focusing on his man. He is thinking of getting the next steal, or salivating to grab that defensive rebound.

I seriously dislike players that play d like this. It might work if you can be bailed out, but its not a responsible way to play.

Im not even going to expand on RR like to pound the ball and wanting to slow down the pace when alot of times its not necessary

why can't we do -

rondo / smart / pressey
bradley / thornton / young

smart and young are on very cheap contracts for 3-4 years. even if you give rondo major dollars - by the time his contract's up is right around the time you need tp pay smart / young big. same applies for the bradley / young dynamic...

i think rondo, bradley, smart, young, thorton and turner form a very formidable backcourt rotation that can create 'all kinds' of match up issues for opposing teams.

also,

having rondo / bradley vet stability, especially rondo, is a real draw for other vet players.

it seems like keeping rondo 'and' smart is the best play, at least for right now.

i think the key thing, as someone else pointed out, is if rondo can adjust his game to fit steven''s system. i know he 'can', but 'will' he...

i'm also 'very' interested to see a smart/lowry match up. that could get very testy very quickly - couple bulldogs.

i recall one game in summer league where smart was matched up against another very physical pg and it got testy quick. smart 'will not' back down.

that's also another reason i'd like to see rondo and smart play together - what a hornet's nest that is if they're on the court at the same time. and if you have one of the two on the court at most times you have two guys constantly putting pressure on the opposing team's defense...
