He's a stopgap and he appears to be a very serviceable one at that.  I'm fine with him as they continue the rebuild.  I don't think he'll be around here for the long-term but that shouldn't matter in the present.

He was by far the best player on the floor last night.  If he plays like that all season, he will be more than a stop gap. He will be a linchpin.  That's a big if, but pre-season is when I like to dream...

Pre-season versus this 76ers squad is an inception style dream within a dream.

I mean why shouldn't we expect Evan Turner to have a TS% of .585 instead of his career average of .485 after such a game?

What about a change of scenery for the better?

The 76ers is not a team you can expect many players to excel under.

I think it helps but talent is still talent.  I don't think, all of a sudden, Turner is going to transform into a top 30 player in the NBA because of a simple change of scenery.

Theres honestly a few people in this blog who didnt even expect these numbers against the D-LEague Allstars (Sixers)

It would not surprise me if Turner was the best player on our roster.   It is not that I think Turner is that good but rather that I think our roster is that bad.   But there is some young guys who inspire hope on the roster.

After watching the Sixers last night I'm actually convinced that they could probably be beat by a handful of D-League teams... I mean its really a mockery of the league. Some of there players can't even pivot, jump stop, or get in a triple threat position correctly. They were throwing the ball into the stands.

Turner should have tore them apart and rightfully so. I'm not a huge Turner fan but I was very impressed by what I saw him do last night. However, I hope he can sustain this play and momentum against a team that actually has some even mediocre talent.

Pre-season game 1 is over, I'm not ready to send him to the hall yet, however, this kid can play and we got the chance to have signed the 2nd overall pick who is only 25 off the scrap pile.

Could the rebuilding process have just been escalated?  I'm not sure, again, its the first pre-season game, but what if.......

I mean, it's similar to the numbers he was putting up on the Sixers last year.  He needs to do quite a bit more before he starts getting credit.  We've already seen that he can put up numbers on a bad team, particularly when he's playing other bad teams; that's not exactly news.

He has career averages of 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal per 36 minutes, and we are paying him about $3M a year.

Paul Pierce put up similar numbers last year for Brooklyn and was making closer to $10M a year.

Given the money he's making, how can anyone complain?  His signing was probably THE biggest steal of the off-season.  Not just for the Celtics, but out of the entire league.

Sure, his signing was the biggest steal of the offseason if you want to ignore that, among active guards and swingmen who've averaged at least 30 minutes per game for their career, he's averaged those numbers with a career eFG% of ~45% and a career PER of 12.0 (49th out of 55 and 55th out of... 55, respectively).

Let's save the hyperbole.  He played well in a preseason game against a bad team.  One game - one preseason game - does not suddenly make him the best signing of the offseason and a future star.  If he keeps it up, great.  If not, oh well.  But the #hotsportstakes are wholly unnecessary and unwarranted right now, lest we forget that he's four years removed from being selected second overall in the draft and a few months removed from being jettisoned by both Philadelphia and Indiana.

I would like to see how Turner, Young, Green, Sullinger, and Olynyk do together.

Chill Bro. This whole thread is to give praise to Turner  and to get more fans to develop a positive mindset about having Turner. Forget his numbers. his leadership was extremely beneficial to the rookies and young players and that is the best part about it.. So yes he did more then just put up good stats.. So that alone is something to praise about

I don't believe I've said anything in this topic other than "yes, he had a good preseason game, but that doesn't suddenly change the fact that he's underwhelmed for four seasons and that people already declaring that he's amazing and the steal of the offseason need to temper expectations." Which is true.

Let those who saw Vitor's first game last season tell the story and you'd think the Celtics had signed the Brazilian Olajuwon.

Turner looked like one of the C's best players last night, which may say more about the rest of the squad than it does about Turner but there you have it.  He seemed to play with some hustle, some aggression.  Looked like a guy who's going to play a lot of minutes for us this season.
