good game overall.  had enough guys making baskets to make up for AB, Smart and KO having off nights.  big difference from last year.

Bass was steady

Rondo and Green would have made a difference.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
I like Turner's court awareness and vision.

He fits the mold for a motion offense, and as Jeff Clark once wrote, would be the perfect candidate for any motion offense.

I liked how we played tonight, Smart/Young look like a great duo. Bradley was off, and KO/Sully combined together 23 rebounds.

Celtics win 78/98.

Good night, and good game ladies and gents!

Team is running and gunning.
Getting to line.
Turner, Thornton, Young scoring....attacking rim....this is madness!

Ainge will trade all of them! Stop it...go back to deep jumpers! Slow it down! Easy now.

Some combination of Sully/Bass/Olynyk should start.  Zeller is overrated, and nowhere near the level of those 3.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Sully yanked out, not once, but twice after missing threes tonight.  Zeller was called in immediately.

I already like Powell more than Zeller.  He seemed less useless. It is only one game, so I will try not to overreact, but I think I saw one instance of an NBA player in Zeller's time on the court (defended Sims nicely once), and many instances of a giant stiff that is barely D-League quality.  Hope tonight was just a really bad game for him.

That said, lots to be optimistic about from tonight.  Turner, KO, Smart and Young all played well.

Smart though didn't score much, I LOVED the way he is on his man. 3 stls, 1 blk...that is solid defense...saw the way he is sticking his man, disrupting the offense. Sure he may have been overly aggressive on some plays, and have gotten 4-5 fouls, but I think he'll learn as time goes by. I think his shooting needs more work, but other than that, I like what I am seeing on offense as well. He can already cut very well, just needs to finish. Very unselfish, I like what I see from this kid

Young - very good scorer in my opinion, in his first game in the NBA, not afraid to shoot the 3 ball and can already drive pretty well. Still a preseason game, but I think against bigger and real starters in the NBA, he should pack on some weight.

Sully - as usual

Turner - whoo, I like what he is bringing to the table, I think he will be a nice pickup down the road

Didn't see much from Olynk as I was going back and forth between work and the TV...will probably pay more attention next game.

It was a bad game.  He looks bigger but for the worse

He has to shed 5-7 pounds of weight and get his speed back.

When I watch Smart for some reason I'm very convinced that eventually his shooting will develop to a solid, at least average level, to go with his elite level defensive abilities.  He looks like he has the goods.

Well it isn't worth much, but at least the 1st game jitters are behind us.  The C's played pretty well overall.  Shooting was terrible, but the hustle and effort to be aggressive on D is really there.  They look to be implementing greater perimeter pressure to control the play on the D end.

KO looks a lot more comfortable out on the court this year.  Smart and Young were both impressive in their own ways.  Smart looked like a difference maker on D today.  Tipping balls, getting steals, staying between his man and the basket while being aggressive.

Turner had a great all around game.  Good effort on d / rebounding / being aggressive taking it to the hole.  He has a knack for finding space and finishing through contact.  In that was kind of similar to PP.  If he gives this effort all year, we absolutely got a steal.  Add RR and Green, and El Hombre and you have a really fun team to watch improve over the year.

All that said we played the 76'ers.  Their team looked absolutely terrible with over 25 turnovers, and poor def effort.  They are a bad team, a really bad team.  If the C's shoot a bit better tonight, it is a 35 point blow out.

Remember they didn't have MCW and a healthy Embiid. Noel got outplayed by both KO and Sully. KO just beat him up on both ends of the court

Embiid doesn't have anything to do with the 76'ers team right now.  He is out indefinitely from his injury.

Add MCW back in and they are still a bad team.  A really bad team.  76'ers should be better by the end of the year, but who really knows.  Noel is going to need a full year to get better.  Embiid will need that long or more, and he might not even play this year.
