I mean... if you think about it, who could we honestly get that could be our superstar?
I just don't see the possibility of Durant coming here, unless we make it to the Finals.
idk why, but I do not see KD coming here. Just in a hypothetical universe, I see LeBron coming here more likely than Durant.
It's more like a 0.01% vs a 0.00000000001%
LeBron already has a track record of bolting to a team with stars already or teaming up with stars. As of now, I do not see KD leaving OKC for better or worst. I can perhaps assume he will go to Washington as it is his hometown to maybe play with John Wall or something. But Celtics, even if we have two stars, I don't see it as likely
LeBron on the other hand, if we have 2 stars, with cap room and just made it to the playoffs or 2nd round, we might get a chance on grabbing him
Here is my theory.
Durant is going to leave OKC.
Its a done deal. Their owner is cheap, and has NEVER ever paid luxury tax, despite him having a net worth of over 400 million dollars. Their GM is also cheap, and under the due orders of the owner, hasn't made the roster changes/free agents to go over the luxury tax. I mean look at who they got in FA. They tried Mike Miller, and Pau Gasol as their main targets, and it fell flat on their face.
Durant is tired of being in 2nd place. He wants to win a championship.
The comments and criticism are only going to be more and more strenous for his career/stress, when the only words he's gonna hear is. "Leading scorer, and MVP, but can't win a ring."
I see Durant going back home, because he'll go back home, but also be treated like a King like Lebron James did the moment he went back to Cleveland. Washington hasn't done anything ever since the Gilbert Arenas incident, and the ever growing back court of Beal, and Wall is becoming more and more enticing. The only issue is how are they going to have the cap space to bring in Durant? A lot of their players are signed on for 2-3 years, the notable ones being Gortat, (5), Wall, Beal, and Webster for around (2-3), so plenty of moves must be made in order to bring in Durant.
They hired his high school coach. Durant actively visits Redskins games, and is close friends with a majority of the people in DMV/Maryland.
I mean... Rondo isn't exactly the greatest person to be around, but I would love if he really does step his game up this year, and solidify himself as a top 3-5 PG. If OKC is rushed into trading Durant a year earlier, then the Celtics may be a great fit with plenty of players under team options/picks, and the flexbility will still allow them to sign Westbrook or Ibaka.
Although, I think Westbrook, too, will bolt for the Lakers. (Home town affiliations, and fondness to the entire city.)
I hope if we do acquire someone like Gasol, maybe bring in Gay, we could try to convince Durant to come here? Durant could either be a PF/SF, or Gay could play PF. I don't know. I'm just ranting.
I think a Big 3 of Durant/Gasol/Rondo would be absolutely unstoppable. Durant is an underrated passer, and is only improving more on defense. A player like Durant who can score from almost anywhere won't need to focus on his post game, as Gasol will be backing down most players in the post, while Rondo passes a cutting Durant, or takes the mid range shot from a pick.
