The OP in this post on RealGM is well respected there. You can all read what he says and believe/decry/doubt/speculate along with him as to whom you think Rondo is/has been recruiting.

I have long thought both Josh Smith and Melo would be on the list . Interestingly, they aren't mentioned.

Here's the post:

Quote
So as many of you already know, I have some contacts within NBA bball operation circles. I recently had a conversation with a couple guys who I will leave unnamed and the focus shifted towards Rondo/Celtics.

One question that I asked was in response to some of the Rondo quotes from last week when Rondo commented on reaching out to "recruit" some players to Boston. He said he wouldn't comment on who they might be. So I asked the question, "any idea who Rondo might be referring to?"

I was told Rondo that would love to have Rudy Gay join him in Boston and that it's likely that's he's spoken with both Rudy Gay and Marc Gasol about playing together in Boston. Rondo thinks Ainge will be able to maneuver enough in-season to open up enough space to sign all 3 (Rondo, Gay, Gasol) and that paired with some of the young talent in house (Smart, Young, Sullinger, Bradley, Olynyk) Rondo is very confident that the Celtics can get back to contention quicker then most people anticipate.
I was told that Rondo has every intention of staying in Boston long-term and that he'll even be willing to take a little less if Ainge can bring in established talent around him.

So that's good news. Another question I asked was the following, "but what if Danny trades Rondo? Is that still a possibility?" The response I got was that Ainge isn't going to shop Rondo but that he will listen to calls, especially if the season goes down hill and they struggle again like last year. As an UFA I'm told that Rondo would seriously consider the Knicks (with Gasol) and that NY would be the front runner to sign Rondo if Rondo is traded in season. But if Rondo makes it through the season in Boston then it is highly unlikely that he will leave. So I guess that's good news

I was also told that Boston yet again is likely to be a team that makes numerous in-season moves with the purpose of developing young players and setting themselves up to sign Free Agents.

Interesting reading and makes some sense. What do you guys think?

I would love to have Marc Gasol here, Zeller still has a lot to prove, but if he does prove to be at least a 10 and 7 guy for 25 minutes, it'll be great for him to back Marc Gasol up.

That being said, I am not interested in Rudy Gay.

Rondo/Smart(Or Bradley)/Rudy Gay/Sully/Gasol

sounds like at best make it to the ECF and lose. And say they are lucky to go to the finals, there is no way in hell, they can beat any of the West teams that makes it to the finals.

I still hope to find a go-to-scorer for our team.

If they can beat the Cavs they can beat anyone out west.

Not saying they can beat the Cavs, just saying this isn't the east that the Nets and Philly went through back in the Kidd/Iverson days.

I would love to see Gay on the C's, if only to see hear the lamentations of half the fanbase.

Well, Rondo is friends with Rudy Gay, and Gay knows Marc Gasol , so it's not out of the realm of,possibility. I'd be psyched to get Gasol but how is Gay any better than Jeff Green?

I guess if he gets Rondo to stay and gets Gasol to come, then he is better just for those points.

If we move Wallace, we could give Gasol 60mil over 4 years (15mil per year) and Rondo 65mil over 5 years (13mil per year).

Rondo / Bradley / Green / Sully / Gasol

Smart / Young / Turner / Olynyk / Zeller

+ 2 firsts.

If Rondo could somehow recruit him, that's a pretty solid team, and wouldn't require Danny giving up that plethora of first rounders (minus what it costs to get rid of Wallace's final year).
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Succinct. Don't need to waste those extra syllables. Well done.

We also wouldn't be the team paying Gay $19M (new contract), which I think is a big part of the reason Rudy Gay is so negatively viewed. Yes it is strange how good teams have done once he leaves, but I still think he's talented in this league.

I'll be hoping everyday of the season that Rondo doesn't get traded by Ainge. Sorry, but I love watching him play and want him to be a Celtic for his entire career.

Rondo
Smart
Gay
Sully
Gasol

Sounds good to me.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
