Just so he isn't giving financial advice....

Why would we listen to him about basketball?  Never been a coach, or GM and one could make an argument he squandered his basketball talent as much as his money.

So, people have to be perfect to give good advice? Pfft.  ::)
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

I love Antoine and totally agree with him. If there was one thing Antoine was good at, it was taking lower level talent (players) and getting the most possible ability out them. Those Cs teams had barely any business making the playoffs never mind winning multiple series'.

Hopefully thurs current Cs teams can have as much self-confidence as Antoine's teams and eventually the talent will follow.

If free throw percentage was correlated to wanting to make free throws every player in the league would put Ray Allen's career numbers from the line to shame.

You would think if he was so passionate about the game that he would do something to actually improve his ability to play the game.

I think Antoine did love being a C, which is commendable because he played at a time when Celtic Pride was its nadir, but his Achilles' heel was his lack of dedication to the game in the off-season.  Dude just left his game slide until the C's had no other choice than to trade him.

I'm more interested in his take on the world of personal finance and money management.
Antione is so rich with advice.

Just don't ask him if you should hit on 18

Antoine Walker is an NBA Champion. Pat Riley acknowledges that Toine was essential in that championship run-as does Shaquille and Wade.

Moreover, he is a kind person and good human being.

His advice is sound: Set goals. Work hard. Establish positive habits.
As opposed to what?  Give up and lose.

When did the Celtics tank under Red?

Like Billups or Joe Johnson he really got the most out of them.   I love the rewriting history folks, touching.

They are not going to say he was not good if he was on that team.   However, we have something called stats that refutes those statements.

Are you confusing his production with the next year which was much better?  Because he was shooting .40% from the field this year and .32% from three.  I think he helped them but Wade took that team on his back and willed it to the championship.

Those are decent goals, can't argue with that.   But I for one, saw the AW era.   Often he was the only bright spot but sticking with him would have got us nothing.   He was a talented but undisciplined pro who never maximized his abilities but he did far better than 99.9% planet will ever do.  He inefficient at times but he normally played hard.

Much has changed as they had a regional draft and the like back then as well as another draft.  The league was loaded as they had less teams.   He was one of the best coachest ever, and invented concepts or made them mainstream like fast break offense and sixth men.

Red was GM in the 70s.  1977-79 Look at record, whether we were tanking who knows but the record almost indicates that.  We ended up with two guys that helped us to win later called Maxwell and Bird.  Ever heard of them?

So I guess we can stop talking about making the playoffs this year now that Rondo's injured.

Obviously, history has proved you, and Danny, right, but I just have one question - I believe I read an article which stated that Pitino said that the Celtics should trade Antoine if they weren't going to give him the max.  That would have been before the 00-01 season, right?  Seeing as Paul was developing so well, so quickly, what could we have reasonably gotten for Toine if we had moved him at that time?  Draft picks, hopefully, but were there any possible deals discussed at the time that would have landed us a haul like what Ainge got for KG and Pierce?  Also, when Danny traded Antoine, was the Dallas deal the best one that we could have gotten, or was there another one without a horrible contract?  I wasn't yet a fan at that point, and, given your username, I just thought that I'd ask :)

Antoine has made some personal mistakes.  Antoine was a flawed player.  But the one thing I admired about him is that he had HEART.  He had a passion for the game, and for the Boston Celtics.  I suppose it's easy to take jabs at him, but I wish I we could transplant what he had inside of him into some other players.  He's right - the goal SHOULD be to make the playoffs.  He's talking about a CULTURE, and if the losing continues, it becomes toxic over time.

I don't agree with this.  Look at his numbers.  Anyone with a passion for the game wouldn't play like he did. By the end of his run in Boston he was playing 40+ minutes a game and averaging 7 rebounds a game.  That's ridiculous.  Throw in the fact that he shot about 60% from the line and that screams to me that he's a player that doesn't care about improving his game.  As long as he got to shoot to his heart's content he was happy.

Antoine was a 3-Time All-Star. Sure, his numbers weren't great in some areas, but he and PP were all that BOS had for a while.

And as for 33_Larry Legend_33's post? I agree with it.

I think that sometimes people tend to criticize Toine because he was our 1st big "Star" after the Larry Era ended, and of course no one could fill Larry's shoes - even to this day.

But some of us expected him to fill those shoes, and it was unwarranted.

He had a LOT of burden and responsibility placed on him and didn't have the best surroundings with the team at the time.

Antoine Walker will always have a special place in my heart as a player. I loved the Shimmy and his game.

Tommy Heinsohn seemed to love Toine, too.

I also have a soft spot in my heart for Antoine.  The man has made big mistakes but I agree with his sentiment here.  The cynic in me says Tank, but in my heart I want to compete and build that so called winning culture.

Its amazing that Antoine still has a soft spot for the Celtics after being traded, twice.

And an excellent advice. We do have a roster that may not compete for a Playoff spot but it shouldnt stop us from trying. And that should go to the FO as well. Everyday they need to be working on how to make this a competitive roster.
