Rose and Bill Simmons had a podcast and Simmons pitched Rose on his idea of Rondo to Charlotte. Rose said he wouldn't do it if he were Charlotte because it's a combustible situation. Rondo is a player that has the ball for 20 seconds of a possession, while Stephenson wants the ball in his hands too and neither is a good shooter.

Rose then added that he would like to see Rondo in Detroit and both agreed that a deal centered around Monroe and a #1 for Rondo would work for both teams.

Just interesting that the Rondo for Monroe deal that we've floated around was also mentioned by Rose. Love him or hate him, Rose does know the game and I respect his opinion.

Rondo for monroe and 1st. Then det can trade jennings for a 1st. Or try to get mclemore from the kings

Monroe/zeller/ko/sully frontcourt would be nice. Much better vs last seasons

good catch -- of course he sees Rondo as a major improvement to his team ;)

IF a deal were to happen, the Rondo for Monroe & #1 then the follow up Jennings for Mclemore isn't too farfetched.  still think Monroe is a PF not a center and can't see him wanting to resign here when he'd be on a team that's a full-blown youth movement

We need a big man and Monroe is a young one (just turned 24). I like the way our starting lineup looks with Monroe/Smart more than I like how it would look with Zeller/Rondo. Just like I think Detroit looks better with Rondo instead of Jennings, switching Smith to the 4, and starting Butler at the 3.

By the numbers, it is very clear Monroe is a C.  That the biggest issue with him in Detroit.

^ Agreed, and there's also the fact that Drummond would fit the 'Stan Van' mold of a center better than Monroe would.

Not to mention Monroe is actually only 24. As far as "youth" goes, he still fits a youth movement very well. Honestly I think he'd fit in real well on a young up and coming team with a number of players around his age and where he could get a lot of minutes at Center. Just to clear out the logjam too, I'd throw KO in the deal for them too who would be a much better fit next to Smith and Drummond. I don't really even need a first from them. Throw in GiGi Datome, the guy Danny was interested in last year and I'm good.

Monroe and Datome for Rondo and Olynyk. That deal is so win-win there's no chance it gets done.

While I agree that Monroe is best at center and while he may be a capable post defender he is not a shot blocker or defensive minded center. If we did trade for Monroe and sign him we would be resigning ourselves to no shot blocker, which we desperately need.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

Just wait and go after Monroe in free agency bc that's what you'll ultimately be doing with this trade anyway. No reason to trade rondo now that Monroe signed his QO.

We'd get a # 1 pick and have a year to sell Monroe on our team. Much easier to re-sign him once he's played for us.

If anything a deal wouldnt get done till the trade deadline right? No use in selling low on him might as well wait and see how he looks maybe others will start lining up

Would be really tough to make salaries match, now that Monroe signed that QC.

Wow, that's pretty hilarious.

Jalen says the reason Charlotte wouldn't want Rondo is because their best perimeter player likes to set up other people and isn't a great shooter, but then immediately suggests Detroit, whose best player is Josh Smith.

The whole Rondo can't play with other shot creators thing that pops up from time to time is beyond ridiculous.  How does playing with Pierce and KG not completely null that argument?  I knew Jalen would make me laugh when I clicked on this thread.
