I think Monroe's camp saying they're being choosey about a long term commitment sounds a bit better than saying nobody, including Detroit, thought he was worth anything near the max.

This is a huge year for Monroe - before this past season, there was little doubt that he was going to get a max offer from any number of teams. Pistons fans even balked at the thought of a Rondo for Monroe swap.

But since he showed no continued improvement, teams see a very good, but not great big man who also may have hit his peak. If he doesn't pick up his scoring/rebounding, even by just a bit, he could be looking at a contract more in the 10-11 mill/yr rather than a max.

And, yes, the Cs should be interested, but they shouldn't go overboard and their first priority should be getting a 'rim protector'.

If you are of a mind that Greg Monroe's agent is just doing his due diligence in putting the focus on Monroe's distaste of staying in Detroit for his decisions rather than the fact that no one seemed willing to step up and give him max money, then you are probably right. But, I think one thing can definitely be derived from these comments coming out: Detroit doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of retaining Greg Monroe next year.

Happy to hear that. It is the stance Monroe should have taken all along. He'll make more money in the long run if he leaves Detroit than if he stays in a bad situation that stops him from fulfilling his talent. Monroe must realize how bad a situation Detroit is for him. Good to know.

Excited to see where Monroe lands next summer. I hope he finds himself a good home. Somewhere that understands his game and puts the right type of pieces alongside him. Hopefully develop him a bit further too because there is still good room for realistically achievable growth there.

I agree with this.

Makes you wonder if this wasn't the game plan all along because Monroe truly doesn't want to play in Detroit any longer than necessary. Now whether that reason is because of bad feelings towards Detroit ownership, Stan Van Gundy, or current team mates, is debatable but perhaps Monroe does have very good reason to have turned down a max offer from Detroit, though, I don't think Detroit would ever have given him that max offer anyway.

Monroe and Jennings for Rondo looks like it could work for both. Monroe can't be traded until late December and he needs to consent to the deal because he loses his Bird rights if traded. However, with plenty of teams having cap space and him appearing to not want to stay in Detroit longterm, I think he'll consent.

I would want a pick if we're taking back Jennings' 2 year deal. Or we could include Wallace, while they include expiring contracts of Bynum and Jerebko, to facilitate a deal.

Makes sense for both teams. Monroe would give us a big man in the middle and allows us to take a closer look at him should we want to sign him longterm. Jennings would back up Smart, and provide that wildcard scoring off the bench like Crawford did.

Rondo clearly upgrades the Pistons PG spot. I question how a non-shooting trio of Rondo, Smith, and Drummond would work. However, the Pistons do have decent shooting surrounding them with Meeks, Caldwell-Pope, Butler, Augustin, and Datome.

Yeah in other news, Detroit does have SOME leverage here to get the trade veto waived if they figure the bridges are burned. They can sit him.

Sit him and tell him to stay home, or accept the trade. He's still gotta have a strong year if he wants a max deal.

LA does seem like a likely place.
