I'm gonna be optimistic for a minute.

I love that Marcus Smart has nooooooo idea he's not supposed to be able to defend the hell out of Joe Johnson and DeMar DeRozen.

Brad Stevens has noooooo idea they're supposed to lose. You say "tank" and the next word that comes to his mind is "Sherman".

There is not one team in our division that scares me even a little. Not one.

The Raps. I'll put Rondo, Avery, Smart up against DeMar and Lowry any day. I'll put KO, TZ, and Sully up against Jonas and....whoever any day.

Brooklyn. Lopez? If you think Avery has health problems.....Joe Johnson and KG? I just don't see it. JJ is fine. KG is done. Derron? Gimme Rondo.

The Knicks. Melo and a whole lot of nothing. JR Smith? Tim Hardaway Jr? Whoop de doo. Melo couldn't lead a team out of a paper bag.

Philly. I think they got talent. They're pretty stupid too. They make me nervous.

I think youth is going to be served.

You want to see something entertaining? Watch Brad Stevens say "Hey. Avery. Rajon. Marcus. Whichever two of you defends best starts and the loser is 6th man." Rajon will pout for 3 minutes till his agent calls him to remind him it's a contract year and they want max money and Brad Stevens has 5 more years on his contract.

I think this ultimately ties into what CBS is trying to achieve. Yes we don't have the greatest offense, but besides the Raptors/Nets, who else is really going to overtake our divison? I think this year, we may make the playoffs, and we may not. If we don't make the playoffs, free agents are less likely inclined to want to come to BOS. But if we do, and there is plenty of promise, and a bundle of assets available to bring in Allstars, Rondo will re-sign.

If not, I can see Rondo leaving.
Quote
Rondo’s second day in China was spent mostly speaking with the Chinese media and meeting with Anta executives. Rondo and Doug Bibby, his close friend, mentor & former coach, talked about the upcoming “Control Camp” sponsored by Anta. They held a press conference at Anta’s flagship store in Beijing. Celtics strength & conditioning coach Bryan Doo also attended today’s events.

Hoop China did a brief interview with Rajon after the presser. Here are some of the highlights:

On his main goal with the Celtics..

“I want to win a championship-I want to win another championship….I want to get back to being a contender and compete for a championship.”

On last year’s dismal season:

“It’s part of it you know..you can’t have a great team every year…if you do you’re very fortunate.”

On the Celtics two picks from the 2014 draft:

“They’re very very young….they make me feel old..we’re going to need energy from the young guys & I look forward to playing with those guys.”

Who is the next Rajon Rondo:

    “Nobody.”

On which sport he would play if he wasn’t in the NBA:

    “Football-American football….quarterback.”

Doesn't sound like a guy inclined to stay pat for another terrible year. Rondo is smart, and if he believes the players this year can become potential franchise or Allstar/fringe Allstar type of players, then he may stick around with the intention of staying one extra year. But I really think us not getting Love may have made Rondo think seriously of his future. I'm optimistic in the same sense as you, or the same boat, that we may over-achieve. The funny thin is this is the one year I would've wanted us to tank. Yes Wiggins/Embiid/Parker would have been great, but Okafor, or Karl Towns Jr/Mundiay seem like franchise superstars.
"I bomb atomically, Socrates' philosophies and hypotheses
Can't define how I be dropping these mockeries."

It's based on your perspective, quite simply
We're the same and we're not; know what I'm saying? Listen
Son, I ain't better than you, I just think different

Rondo is the captain.

If you mistreat your captain you will not attract free agents. So Brad does not have all the leverage in this case.

A brilliant season would be great. Nothing I'd love more than to see us make the playoffs this year. Given that we won't-- and I do think it's a real long shot-- I'd like to see us tank hard and pick top 3 rather than like 8th.

Smart will be great in a couple years, but he isn't a difference maker in his rookie year. He'll struggle shooting the ball and finishing among the trees. Defensively he'll be good, but not as good as AB just yet.

If we make the playoffs it will be due to unexpected leaps from our non-rookies. Rondo could be great if he regains his aggressiveness and burst while also shooting the ball more efficiently... AB could make a leap as Kevin described... Sully could get in shape and develop into a go-to option in the post... Green could get a psychologist.

If it becomes clear that none of the above are happening, we should just throw in the towel, trade Rondo and go for Towns.

I think if Marcus Smart plays extremely well this has a better chance at happening.

I think that everything would have to go right for us to win the Atlantic, which is easily the worst division in the NBA.  This should show just how far this team is from actually contending for a title.  I think another trip to the lottery would be much more beneficial to this team's long term success than an early round playoff exit.

Fantastic!! Great title, great post.

I do think we could win the battle of the bums.  What a brilliant season that would make.

SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas

This is one of the better posts I have seen on here. Nothing like a little optimism for a change!

I have to be honest - coming in here, I totally thought you were going to say a lot of negative things. I am quite surprised and quite a good read. TP for you!

I am also optimistic about this season. I don't see us winning a lot of games, I say we will be in the mid 30s at worst and low 40s at best. Fighting for playoffs but it will be fun

This team will compete with Rondo being 100%...2 more months til the season starts!

I think the division is well within the possibility of being decided by injuries

I think that's something you can say about every division every year. ;)

The Raptors won nearly 50 games last season. Even with the 'but they're an Eastern Conference team!' caveat, I don't understand why anyone would think they'll be substantially worse this year.

I'm of the mind that we'd surprise ourselves

I always said when I left the Celtics, I could not go to heaven, because that would
be a step down. I am pure 100 percent Celtic. I think if you slashed my wrists, my

They won 50 games in an incredibly weak division

Won't be so easy this year.

Dealing with the Nets Lopez will be back.

Dealing with the Celts will mean Rondo for the whole year, not a third, Marcus Smart, Tyler Zeller, and Evan Turner and a coach not in his first year any more.

Dealing with Philly means dealing with Nerlens Noel and a more seasoned MCW and a lot of young guys trying to make a name for themselves.

Kyle Lowry had his run of the Celts last year. No Rondo for most of it, no Smart. Some hurt Avery.
This year the Celts could give him PTSD

A couple free agency signings could make a difference too. Andray Blatche and Emeka Okafor could make things interesting. Does someone go to the Heat? The Cavs? Zalgiris Kaunus?
