  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Aron Baynes the 6' 10", 260 pound Australian center of the Spurs is a restricted free agent.
Per 36 minutes averaged 12 points and 10.6 rebounds last season.
Not the rim protector we really need, but might be a good locker room competitor for Zeller?
He's after a deal of USD $1.98 million per season.
Could be a good asset to sign and develop. Has really improved his shooting last season and shot 90% from the line (only 21 attempts but his form is much better now). Major downside is his age at 27, very late bloomer, but still a good 5 seasons left in him. Thoughts?

Eh, I'm not for adding another big man unless it's the rim protector we need.

Celtics have enough 3rd string centers with Vitor Faverani and Joel Anthony.

They don't need another one.

If the Spurs (or a third team) would take back Joel Anthony, its a swap I do by throwing in a second rounder and some cash...

I'd argue that Baynes is slightly better than Faverani as along term prospect because of his rapid improvement playing for the Spurs in 2 seasons, and far less of an injury risk. Playing with the Spurs with Duncan +Popovich and thus brings that locker room attitude to the Celtics.

Idea is to sign him and build value as an asset, let him go toe to toe with Zeller and Vitor on a daily basis. Would give Sully and Olynyk and big body to practice against and adjust to aswell.

Is he really a late bloomer or is it more to do with how Spurs seem to make players look better? I'll pass anyway, we have enough big men to sift through.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

I like the way Snrub thinks :)

I agree though that there's probably no room for him with Faverani and Anthony taking up space. Would have to ditch the drunkard Faverani to make way.

I'm obviously a big fan of Baynes but I can see how bringing him in would be viewed as a sideways move.

He's doing great in the FIBA World Cup exhibition games. Australia's best performed player by far.

As an Aussie Celtics fan, there's nothing more I'd like to see than a homegrown boy playing for Boston.

Plus he's already comfortable wearing green :D

There are athletes and basketball players, that guy is a player.   Slow and mechanical, but tall and takes up a lot of real estate but looks like he could not jump over a phone book.   PER can make dog poo smell like a flowers.  So do highlights and this guy played only 2.3 MPG in the finals and 9 MPG in the finals.
