Would Sixers go for this?  We're not going to be good for a while, which gives Embiid time to recuperate from injury and develop.  I'd even do it for Rondo and picks.

No, Sixers say no.

1. They have a pretty good PG prospect.
2. No way Rondo resigns in Philly.
3. Rondo would hurt their tanking efforts.
4. Embiid is still the best prospect to come out of this draft.

Trading Embiid for Rondo would go against the direction that Philly is trying to take.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

The Sixers are further away from being good than the Celtics, so if it makes sense to dump Rondo for that reason (and that's a stupid reason), Philly has no reason to make that trade if they believe in that sort of reasoning.

Oh, I didn't take into account their relentless effort to tank over and over again.

i think the only time Sixers trade for proven all-star talent is when they feel they're ready to compete. By that time, it's either 1) Embiid is untouchable and/or 2) Rondo is no longer a desirable trade target.

no team would trade rookie embiid for rondo. It has nothing to do with the Sixers wanting to tank.

Philly laughs hysterically and hangs up the phone.

I don't think anymore trades happen this summer.

DA seems to be hibernating right now.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
For anybody saying there is no way that Philly would ever do this, realize that Minny just received the last two number one picks - including a guy who was selected ahead of Embiid - as well as a first for their star player (I know this was a three-way trade, but this was the deal if you left Philly/Young out of it).

Obviously a strong case can be made for Love being a better player than Rondo, but all we are asking for in this hypothetical case is a lower pick in just one of those drafts - and without the first. Also, this deal probably wouldn't work with Philly for reasons already stated, but you could certainly bring in a third team who has what they are looking for.

this would be trading Rondo for a BIG question mark
Embiid looked great in collage, but his health is a big concern, plus, given his stupid twitter posts, i'm under impression that he's not the sharpest tool in the shed.

This. I think he'll be a bust in the end.

Before the draft, would ANYONE have thought it realistic that the C's would be able to trade Rondo for the #3 pick?  'Cause I can guarantee you that if that was possible, Rondo would be out of town already.

So, what's changed now?

Danny would Federal Express Rondo to Philly if Philly offered Embiid.
