If the Celts managed to land Hibbert and land him without giving up Rondo, then that would've been a major coup.

I do also find it kinda strange that the Turner signing hasn't been made official yet (anyone have info on why that is?)

That said, I am not holding my breath.

I'm not holding my breath either but if Hibbert is being shopped as reports claim, I fully expect DA to perform his due diligence and see what Indy's price is. It all depends on what Indy wants though. If they're looking for veteran talent, then we're probably on the outside looking in. If they're looking for players with potential, draft considerations and the ability to clear cap, then there isn't a team with assets that can match an offer DA can put together.

As for Turner, it is interesting. Maybe they're trying to work a sign and trade of some sort. We do have 2 trade exceptions he could potentially fit into.

Rondo for Monroe.
In a heartbeat.
I think you made a wrong turn somewhere back there. Maybe a right instead of a left at that last traffic light.

No way

monroe is  a better center and he is a FA right now.
15.2   ppg 9.3rpg 0.6bpg 18.16 PER

Hibert stats
10.8ppg   6.6rpg 2.2bpg 13.54PER

monroe beats hibert by far in points rebounding and PER.

Defense.

I like Monroe a lot. I think he's the last of a dying breed (post players). But I don't love him as a fit on this team. If Sully is the future at the 4, you HAVE to have a defensive center next to him.

Unfortunately, I have to concur with such an assessment.  I do wonder, though - which would be the better combination: Sully and KO or Sully and Monroe?  Probably the latter, but we'd still be atrocious defensively.  Who would you rather have moving forward, Monroe or Sullinger?  I don't know if I could choose because they both bring similar, and yet also very different, skills to the game.

If we got Hibbert I would be shocked and very satisfied. Hibbert is a great player, boston would be a great place for him to get back to his all-star form.

Same here, but unfortunately it's never going to happen.

Terrible.

If we can get Hibbert without giving up Rondo then its pretty much a no brainer to do it. I'd trade Bogans, unguaranteeds, Sully, and a first for Hibbert. (Prepare to get eaten alive for that proposal.) But Hibbert is a true center with a great defensive mindset. He had a down half year last year and isn't a stellar rebounder but he makes a difference in the middle.

Rondo/Smart/Pressey
AB/Turner/Thorton
Green/Wallace
Bass/KO
Hibbert/Zeller

Thats a 7th or 8th seed playoff team. With assets to make another major move at the deadline (package Bass and Thorton's expirings plus a first or two for _________) or in the offseason to further improve.

For me without question its Monroe. If we could find a way to use our draft picks to net Hibbert and Monroe then that would be a nice combination from my eyes at the 4/5.

The guy (Chris22) who has said a million times that Rondo isn't worth a bag of balls now wants to get Monroe for him. Of course, this would be a ridiculously lopsided trade in Detroit's favor.

If we can get Hibbert and pair him up with Rondo, I think we are a playoff team, which would make me very happy!

Why not Green, Bass and the Clippers 1st for Hibbert? Works in the trade machine.

Because they'd want more than that.

The only way I can see us getting Hibbert is if Indiana can get Monroe, thus making Hibbert expendable.

Will take some creativity.

Now, is that because of Sullinger's weight issue, or is it just basketball-related?  I mean, Sullinger is a great rebounder and passer, but he doesn't have much of a post game (yet), while Monroe is also a great passer, who's taller, but nowhere near Sully in terms of rebounding, and in pairing him with Hibbert, who at times seems to have James Edwards-like rebounding numbers lol, would that not be the worst rebounding 4/5 combination in the league, despite their size?  I'm not saying that Monroe is bad, but he's not a dominant rebounder, although he did play next to Drummond, so maybe that partially explains it.  I liked Monroe coming out of college, and I'm with you - I love old school post players.  I saw a week or two ago that, and I believe that this was just a rumor, Indiana was looking into him, making the pairing of Monroe and Hibbert a possibility, however remote.  I don't know how they'd make that work financially or even on the court if West is there, but that would be an interesting team.  They'd probably have the best front line in the game, which they already had with George, West, and Hibbert, imo.

Edit - although not the article that I saw originally, this is interesting, even though it doesn't make sense for either team, imo -

The Greg Monroe rumor mill is rumbling yet again on this Sunday evening. According to Matt Dery of Detroit Sports 105.1, the Indiana Pacers have contacted the Detroit Pistons about swapping Greg Monroe for Roy Hibbert.

Quote
Lots of chatter about Greg Monroe today. Pacers shopping Hibbert and a source tells me they have called the Pistons about him. All I know.

Btw, does anyone know why Monroe has the nickname, "moose," and if he really got it going, could we say, "moose is loose?" ;D

No. Please, no. Inconsistent, horrible on PnR defense, slow as cold molasses running uphill in the middle of January.

I wonder if the Celtics can get involved in a three way.....
