I just wanted to share a quick link to an article in my local paper.  Marcus Smart (along with several others) came to Maine to visit Seeds of Peace and provide a little fun.  From the video I've seen on the News it looks like Smart was the life of the party.....it's getting pretty hard not to like this kid.

Let's hope he's not planting seeds for when he joins the Red Claws.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I don't see any possibility that Smart plays for the Claws unless he has an injury that requires rehab/conditioning.  Young however could play several games here this year.

Thanks for posting this. Maine's my home state and doesn't get much press, and it's cool that something great like this takes place there.

You don't see even the slightest possibility that Rondo, Bradley, Thornton, and Turner outplay Smart in his first season?

Nope.  Smart is the back up point guard on this team.  Bradley and Thornton are going to battle at the 2 guard, and Green/Wallace and Turner will share time at the 3.  There are quite a few interchangeable parts in this scenario...Smart/Turner can play some 2 guard, Wallace and Green can play some 4.  I also wouldn't be shocked to see Green and Rondo moved before the trade deadline.  Smart learning from battling Rondo in practice is the best way to have him prepared IF he ends up taking over.

I've been looking to relocate (in 5 years)from MA to either NH or ME. I think this event took place  near Lake Sebago, do you guys know it well. My big concern is water temp. is it really that much colder going from MA/NH to ME?

I know of Lake Sebago but I'm not familiar with it, except that I know it's quite a tourist/vacation spot in the summer, with lots of people on the lake enjoying the water. As far as I know, the water temp. isn't significantly colder in ME or NH than it is in MA.

Maine is much nicer than New Hampshire, though.

Lake Sebago's mild enough. If you're familiar with the ocean, MA and ME don't change that much (although Maine's got more surfing).

edit: and, for the record, the coastline isn't the coldest spot in any of the New England states north of Mass. Far from it.

NH is much nicer than Maine. Maine is one of the worst welfare states in the US and has an absurdly high unemployment rate. It's better than Mass, but it's still a stink hole. Great place to visit, horrible place to live.

And for the record, Lake Winnipesaukee is a bit nicer than Lake Sebago. But, the White Mountains top either.

I currently live probably 20 minutes from Sebago Lake. No noticeable difference in water temp at all.

KGs Knee is not that well informed....Maine's unemployment rate is 5.5 percent which places it 19th in the nation.  For perspective Mass has the same 5.5%, while NH has a 4.5%, Vermont has 3.5%, Rhode Island has a 7.9%.

Maine is a great place to live especially if you have a young family.  I grew up here, left for college, and stayed in south Florida for 15 years.  I have recently moved back and my entire family couldn't be happier (including my Floridian wife).  People are incredibly nice, small cities and towns are still very community oriented, Portland is a fun small city with good food, arts, and sports. It's also the safest state in the nation.

I'm a big fan of NH as well and enjoy the N.Conway and the White Mountains, but I'll take Maine's diverse and beautiful beaches over the Mountains any day of the week. (heres a link..http://www.theguardian.com/travel/2013/sep/21/top-10-maine-beaches-new-england-usa)

As far as problems Maine has a few...its quickly aging state (the oldest state in the nation), politics has become incredibly partisan over the past several governors (do nothing legislature), and we don't do a good job of keeping college students in the state (it's cheaper to go to UFlorida than UMaine).  Also like NH and Vermont, rural Maine is battling substance abuse...thanks to the pain pill culture our poor residents in the country can't afford the pharma they got hooked on and moved to illegal substitutes.

I've lived in Mass for 55 years and have never had a stink hole experience, with the exception of 1 year in Brighton when I was 22 (yet, I had a blast that year).

I hate cold weather (more and more as I get older), but other than that, Massachusetts has been a great place to live.  Convenient to city, beach, mountains, lakes, all NE states and NY -- with diversity of lifestyles, art, entertainment, culture, ethnicity, history, urban, suburban, rural, wealthy, middle and poor.  It's an amazing state with all that happens within a relatively small geographic area.   The only thing that makes me yearn for something different is the weather.

Incidentally, my office is in Bedford, NH, and I work all over NH (a little in other NE states and went to school 4 years in Ct), and I am very familiar with all of New England.  Everything considered (including taxes), Massachusetts is by far my favorite NE state.

Second this.
As a mainer born and bread I take serious exception to the "stink hole" comment.
I live in Portland, just got back from a weeks vacation in Hancock county and choose to stay on this side of the kittery bridge as much as possible. Leaving Maine feels like I need a passport. We got it good here.
