Glad we are not in the western conference. Looks impossible to get into the playoffs.

Kind of hope not, want to see us sucking pond water next year not making the playoffs as an 8 seed.

In October i will have my final predictions. I have Boston tied for about 5th worst in the NBA again, along with the Wolves.

East top 8:
Cle
Chi
Tor
Was
Mia
Cha
Atl
Nyk

Cleveland should take the East with Love arriving. I still dont trust Rose's body to hold up, even though Chicago looks stronger. Miami will drop to .500 something ball. Everyone else should benefit from little improvements or holding firm to their previous spot.

West top 8:
Okc
San
Lac
Gol
Hou
Mem
Por
Dal

Portland has the biggest change from last season, as i think they stayed the same, and last year benefited from an unexpected hot start and good health. Alridge did miss 13 games. But the next 5 guys all played all 82 games.

I think there is very little separation between NYK, BOS, IND, BKN and DET.

I could see any of those teams making 8th seed or end up in 12th place finish in East.

I think Atlanta have separation from that pack.

I see them competing for 5th-7th seeds along with Miami and Charlotte. I wouldn't be surprised to see Atlanta top that mini-group of teams.

The Hawks were playing really good basketball before Horford got injured. So long as Horford is healthy, I think he elevates them above those other teams listed above (NYK, BKN, BOS, IND, DET). However, if Horford gets hurt again then all that changes and Hawks will be fighting those five teams for final two playoff spots.

I thought the Hawks looked very good last year before Al Horford got injured.

PG: Jeff Teague, Shelvin Mack
SG: Kyle Korver, John Jenkins
SF: DeMarre Carroll, Thabo Sefolosha
PF: Paul Millsap, Mike Scott, Adreian Payne
 C: Al Horford, Pero Antic

I do not like their backup guards but the rest of their team is very solid.

Those of us who (correctly) predicted the team would be awful last year still watched the games. Luckily there was plenty of good basketball on to act as a chaser.

Sully + KO=/= Milsap, sorry. And AB/Smart =/= Korver in the scheme of the offense.

Atlanta also has more established schemes, more continuity, and a better offensive and defensive identity.

Ab and smart defense can neutralize korvers offense

And last seasons sulky/ko does not equal millsap but this upcoming seasons version will imo

As for team offense/defense, fine you got a pt. My pt is overall atl or a team like nyk r not easily better though

I don't think we are worse than the Knicks now that they've traded T Chandler away, but the Hawks will kill us. Remember they went 7 games with the Pacers last year in the first round of the playoffs. They battled without Horford (he only played 30 games last season). They have a very solid veteran line up with Teague running the point.
DeMare Carol is a defensive specialist with a better FG% and better 3 point % than Jeff Green. He takes 6 less shots per game than Green, and he also gets more rebounds than Green and holds opponents to a lower FG% than Green. This is the guy that Pierce and KG wanted on the Celtics in their final season after playing with him in LA during the summer. Given he's only paid 2.5 million as well, teams will be 100% going for him before they go after Green as trade targets. I wouldn't trade him if I were the Hawks either.

Teague has become a 16.5 point, 6.5 assist, 2.6 rebounds,1 steal point guard for Atlanta and is only getting better- he had an off shooting year last year but still managed to have the Hawks match his restricted FA offers.

Finally there's Horford and Millsap who would simply destroy Sully and Olynyk/Zeller.
Both get 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds a game and both stretch the floor and rebound.

If Horford is healthy, they should make the playoffs no problem. Kyle Korver is not easy to guard either at 6 foot 7 and 47% from 3 point land. He hit the most consecutive 3 point shots in an NBA season last year because his size and length get him open shots regardless of who's guarding him at the SG.

If we trade Green and Bass, teams like Atlanta will destroy us even worse at full health.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
